This. I don't pretend to understand their plight, but it sure seems like they probably feel pretty alone carrying the weight of what happened to them and they feel like coming out with the truth may fall on deaf ears or worse, (yes C2S) they may experience repercussions to their career or what have you. But when a few voices started speaking up and were being listened to, it empowered others to come forward.
I don't see why that's hard to understand, and I don't mean that as an insult dre if you're sincerely just confused by it.

Definitely another element to it. Some people seem to want to defend the likes of someone like a politician, but I wonder if they gave the same consideration to one of those Hollywood types that have been accused.
