Saw Dumbo yesterday. I really liked it. You’ll fall in love with the elephant.

This makes me sad. Behind COL, this was favorite song.

And after seeing the trailer, I can't wait for this movie. The only thing after first watch was that I couldn't get over was the voice for Scar. I know JEJ came back for Mufasa, but I think they could have also brought back one more and had Jeremy Irons for Scar again. To me, he was the perfect voice for Scar, just like JEJ is for Mufasa.

Akiva Schaffer from the Lonley Island is going to direct a live action/CG hybrid of the Rescue Rangers.

    Quote:
Plot details for Rangers are being squirreled away, but it will not be an origin story nor detective agency story. Rather, the take is being described as being meta, something self-referential and cool. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand wrote the script.

That meta take could prove to be perfect match in the hands of Schaffer, who with his Lonely Island cohorts made classic digital shorts for Saturday Night Live, both as writer and director. He also co-directed the mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Stopping, acclaimed Hulu comedy Pen15, and off-the-wall sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. Schaffer is repped by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.

This actually sounds pretty neat. I'm picturing it looking like Alvin and the Chipmunks, but way better. CGI similar to Christopher Robin?

Speaking of CR, wife and I watched that again last night. It was my first time since seeing it since in theaters (probably her 10th - she loves Pooh). Such a well-done movie.

I saw Aladdin last night, and it was solid but not great.

Will Smith wasn't terrible as the Genie, but I feel a better Genie would have elevated this entire movie. I also didn't care for Jasmine's new song.

That's kind of what I'm expecting. I expect I'll enjoy it, and overall I'll give it a "good" rating. But I don't expect anything anywhere near great. Probably a few good lines, some memorable tunes, etc. But that's about it.

This is exactly what Robin Williams did with the animated film. That film would've also been good but not great without him. I fully expect the live action one to be the same.

Not surprising. I haven't really liked much of the new music in other movies, though I though "Evermore" in BATB was a really awesome song. "Days in the Sun" was decent too.

I don't have faith in whatever stupid song Beyonce will sing in LK though.

Snow White is going to happen.

    https://variety.com/2019/film/news/m...ke-1203229326/

Marc Webb Eyed to Direct Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Remake (EXCLUSIVE)

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s off to Disney Marc Webb goes. The filmmaker is in talks to direct the studio’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “Snow White.”

While the deal isn’t finalized, sources tell Variety that Webb is the top choice to helm the movie.

“The Girl on the Train” screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson is in negotiations to pen the script for “Snow White,” which will expand upon the story and music from the 1938 animated classic. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind “La La Land,” “The Greatest Showman,” and “Dear Evan Hansen,” will write new songs for the movie. Marc Platt is on board to produce.

mmm disagree. Speechless is fantastic and Scott knocked it out of the park. I liked that they made Jasmine more of a heroine and not just a damsel in distress

Jafar was a little too "emo" for me. This might be the best live action so far jumping ahead of The Jungle Book

Just did a quick scroll through her gram to try to find those 2 pics... while I didn't find those within my 30 second time investment, it was not a disappointment.

hubba hubba. My wife still hasn't caught on to the fact I DVR good morning america and just fast forward to the Ginger parts.

Although she does usually do cool stuff like go to volcanoes, Antarctica, and they always send her to Disney events

her husband seems like a cool guy the videos he does with their kids are always funny

Re: Disney live action movie thread

I think the cycles are now too short. The Jungle Book remake was good and understandable as the original was nearly 50 years old upon it's release. Even a traditional animated version would have been justified. But Aladdin isn't even 30 years old and still looks great, while the Lion King is even newer and remains a high quality classic.

This process just speaks to being out of ideas. I appreciate how great the technology is, but why not apply it to new stories. It reminds me of the verse from Ani's Fuel:

    We got it rehashed
    We got it half-assed
We're digging up all the graves
And we're spitting on the past

Obviously we're not digging up any graves or spitting on anyone past, present, or future, but it speaks to a vacancy of ideas. And it's not like Disney is unique in this regard.

We're not excited by or particularly interested in Aladdin, but we might go see the Lion King as our eight yr-old will likely enjoy it. But we've been more interested in new and different stories.

My wife is very well aware of my love for Ginger. There was really no hiding it... completely tuning her out when Ginger came on the tv was her first clue.
