I guess it never occurred to me that DMB would be beholden to the label at this stage. I mean, I guess it makes sense if I stop and think about it, especially if Dave doesn’t own the masters. I guess I just thought with all the success DMB has had, the label would be happy to be totally hands-off and let the band do whatever they wanted.
I need to be educated on the subject, but I don’t understand why DMB wouldn’t just do everything through Bama Rags and ways their hands of RCA completely. If Dave/DMB own their masters, it doesn’t make any sense to me why they would want an outside entity having a voice in what music they get to share with the world.
Gives me pause about how much we’ve blamed Dave/the band over the years for songs never making it on albums (Shotgun, Bismarck, Sugar Will, etc.). Probably giving the band too much leeway, but hearing some stuff in this thread at the very least makes me wonder.
