If Jimi hadn’t been played in 10 years, its liberation would be epic.

But nah. People have this weird ego trip with being a TRUE fan.
Jimi would be amazing if they shortened it and had dave do his acoustic Jam and played it less

LITHOG is a song people are starting to like with the ABI intro and Bourbons & Lacs interpolations. Some people I talk to.

LITHOG might be the song I was most surprised by in terms of liking it in person, I'm usually indifferent about it when listening from home but enjoyed it on Saturday

Obviously they aren't playing MacHead or Monkey man without the triplet but just getting things like Break for it and Break Free in the same set isn't possible if they pad the set with longer meh songs. The Meh songs in Hartford which I consider Cant Stop (you could argue Funny but as I said i think it's more tolerable in 2022 than it was in the 2009-2013 era where it was annoying).

And Hartford on the ants tour central page as I post is tied for the best show flow with Charleston N1 with 41%. That doesn't happen with a Jimi and Triplet thrown in and a few other songs thrown out.
You could argue literally anything you wanted to argue as far as one song being shuffled in for another...so, I'm not sure why you even throw that out there. What if in Jax they threw in Can't Stop, Y&M, and Bayou to close instead of triplets? What if in Hartford they subbed in triplets for Funny, Can't Stop, and CoCo? What if this, or that?

Ants Show Flow is not really something I'd reference to strengthen your (not just you, the collective you) point. Ever.

I enjoyed Mansfield, which multiple people at my office have complained about, more than Hartford

for me at first glance going off the set list, Hartford was better; higher highs for me.

After a few days listening to both i feel like Mansfield might have been the overall better show despite not having the highs of hartford.

Mansfield crowd on the tape on Hub is an absolute treat. There are some great reactions to songs. Samurai Cop got a very welcome reception. They were stunned as if "Is this really happening?" when Lover Lay Down started. Got overjoyed with the first Drive In Drive Out false start. They dug Madman's Eyes too. While I am in the camp that likes the song, Come On Come On got ZERO reaction

Made for a more fun than usual listen!

Been going to Mansfield since 2013 and they love the classic hits and newer high energy songs. The Crash, WWYS, Ants, Billies, Too Much type songs get big reactions as do the newer high energy songs. Whereas Sugar Will and LLD, If Only, Come on Come on songs make people flood to the bathroom. They are definitely a unique venue because they used to have 2 shows and they love their dave. However any deep cut old or new that is slow doesn't get love lol which is ok. Boston loves to party weather it's with Tea or You and Me.

That song is all about song placement for me. Studio version is top 20 for me, but it can really bog down a set if it's in the wrong run of songs. Pretty typical for most overplayed songs these days. Just change up where it's played in the set, and it will get a different response.

Like if they quit closing sets or encores with Ants. Put it back in the middle or hell, open up with it! Same with Two Step. Also songs like You and Me, rather than put it in the 2nd to last mainset song, put it mid set after a banger.

DMB doesn't have a stale song problem, but they can tend to have a stale setlist problem. If they only play 50 plus songs on the reg, just mix up the placement of them more. Dave has been doing better at this, but can still throw in the most predictable setlist of any band that supposedly performs unique shows every night.

I think there is a balance to be struck that songs like Warehouse, Triplets, Nancies, and Ants have a place in every set as just staple DMB songs. There is room for variety outside of a core rotation of staple songs and if there is slot variety on where those staple songs pop up in a set to keep them fresh even better ('22 is fantastic in this department).
23 year fan here and yes, I've always craved setlist variety as that is what initially drew me to the band. Even in late 90's early 2000's they didn't have THAT many songs, but somehow managed to make a 3 night stand different with many repeats based on setlist placement and nuances in the jams/structure of the song. If you hear Jimi Thing now, it's going to be more or less the same every single night. Not longer, not shorter just very predictable how long Jeff's solo is going to last into Tim's outro. The crescendo of the song into the jam.

A good song is a good song. Who fucking cares how often it gets played at shows?

Just can’t wrap my head around that. Jimi sucks now but if they stopped playing it, but then brought it out 10 years later and it was the SAME EXACT SONG, it would not suck? I’m sorry but what?

I get it, some songs are rare and it does make them more special when you see them live. But like, Shake Me always sucks, no matter how often they play it. Jimi always rules, no matter how often they play it.

Seriously, if songs like Jimi and SMTS and Satellite don’t excite you anymore, that’s your own fault and not the band’s.

I think LITHOG is better than tons of songs from the 90s.

But ya know, it’s on Big Whiskey and it gets played a lot so it’s MEHHH. Give me a boring song like Deed is Done for an EPIC LIBERATION

Come On Come On is actually sounding really good this tour! Dave is playing the guitar part more energetically and the band really tightened it up. Definitely looking forward to hearing that one.

Listening to it on the Hartford tape right now.

We enjoyed it at Bristow, meh-ed out on it at Mansfield, annoyed with it at Hartford...three regular tour scheduled shows in a row for a decent song from a 4 yr old album. Such an odd choice ...would've welcomed three MMEs or WAtMs or pretty much any of the new songs, OR multiple plays of the Breaks, let alone all of the other tunes he could've played.

It's obvious he's just feeling it, far FAR more than we (wife & I) were.

I mean, yeah I would go to a show and love it. I don’t go to every show on a tour, and I don’t let looking at DMBAlmanac distort my own perspective.

I wouldn’t continue to see them and complain for fuckin years about how they’re not doing things how I want them to.

Plenty of bands do play the same set every night. I buy tickets accordingly.

Depends. Are they playing the same set both nights at two night stands, or are they implementing a standardized two night stand set with no repeats between the two nights, but each two night stand across the tour is the same.

Gorge would be the only outlier in this scenario.

I agree, which is why I wouldn't be okay with them playing the same setlist each night. I would answer "No" to my question 100% and say setlist variety is something I care about in a show. What is the false choice here again?

Plenty of bands do play the same set every night. I buy tickets accordingly.
Good response and yeah I get it. Logical consistency on the "play great songs" argument isn't something you see from some other users on here.

False choice is shows as they currently are or playing the same set each night with great songs.

What you don't get to say is playing great songs is ALL you care about in a show but then also say not playing the same setlist each night (setlist variety) is something else you do care about at the same time.

At that point you are just getting into the subjectivity of songs people like and how much they pop up that just comes with adding different songs each night. They might switch out some songs you like more and some songs I like more another night. I will still take the variety if it means a few songs that I might like a bit less.

Gorge would be the only outlier in this scenario.
    Still awaiting clarification on this...

Sure why not, real question is does it change your answer on if you care about the same set being played each night whether two night stands have the same set both nights versus a set N1 & N2 but is repeated at each two night stop? Does it change your answer? Yes or No?

I'm going to assume you meant yes to a standardized two night stand with no repeats.

I would be fine with the same set for all one night stands and a standardized two night stand set with no repeats. Potentially flipping the two sets around depending on the stop, but boilerplate nonetheless. Gorge would become the most rare tour stop, but also the tour stop you have the biggest chance of seeing shitty "rare" songs.

Yes that is what I meant. Cool so it did make a difference if it was same setlist for both nights of a two night stand or a standardized two night stand with no repeats.

More logical consistency on this. Finding more people than I thought. Come to think of it there might just be one person I'm thinking of that can't answer this question straight and keep consistent logic.
