This is so weird. Why wasn’t Jeff more involved? Blows my mind.

Black and Blue Bird was written only by Dave and the horn section (and McKean)...very, very interesting.

...And Jeff is listed first on B&BB... that's the most interesting part IMO... and I agree with MANY other people... that Jeff should have been way more involved on this album... he didn't have to WRITE songs... but he and his horns should have been more prevalent for sure.

Have said it before and will say it again, when Dave writes alone its better than any other material written with the band. This album, although I enjoy all the songs, holds true- If I had to boil this album down and clip other songs out, for whatever reason- I would hold onto the songs that only Dave is credited to and start from there.

I can understand where you're coming from, but this is too general of a statement. This implies that the only two songs you like on BW are Time Bomb and You and Me, and that you don't like Snow Outside, Rapunzel, #41, LIOG, for example.

Cool story... however, standards when crediting are alphabetized by performer/musician... then producer (if credited)

The majority of the best songs in the DMB canon have been written solely by Dave. Sure, there are some exceptions to the rule (e.g. #41, Lie In Our Graves, etc.) but songs where there are "less cooks in the kitchen" tend to be superior to those where a large number of writers are involved.

I think it would be fascinating to learn how they allocate songwriting credit these days. For example, why is "Squirm" listed as a "Matthews/Beauford" while "Spaceman" is a "Matthews/Beauford/Lessard" and Time Bomb is just a "Matthews" composition? Why did Carter get songwriting credit on Squirm but not on Time Bomb? When does a contribution make you a writer instead of just someone playing on Dave's track? They're all so rich now they probably don't care that much about the extra cash they could make from being listed as a writer on a deep album cut but it would be interesting to know how they handle songwriting credit.
