Re: ***Labor Day Weekend at the Gorge 2021***

Looking forward to 2021, sad about 2020. My buddy and I are still going to stay at Vantage for the weekend and soak up the sun... probably play a live show each night we are there. covid isn't going to ruin all of our labor day plans!

My friend stayed at Cave B last weekend with some of her girlfriends for an engagement celebration. Gave me good Gorge vibes seeing her Insta story from the winery.

Has anyone done the lawn solo for a night? How is it? It looks like I'll be rocking these shows solo and want to do it right. Do I wait for a pit, or just get a lawn for N3?

Sort of did solo lawn one night in 18. Met up with some friends for the beginning of the show and ended up separated. Had a great time even after being separated.

Pit is another great option when solo and you have loads of time between now and then to score one.

You meet a ton of folks in the lawn. That's one of the best lawns for DMB, along with West Palm Beach. Total blast, I highly recommend it. I am not interested in pit or floor there as there is no slant to the lowers, it's all flat. The stage is very high compared to amphitheater stages so the pit folks are going to be craning their necks upwards. Lawn was flawless for me in 2019 and I'm doing it again in 2021.

There’s no point in rushing to by lawn tix. They’ll be readily available as people always back out in the weeks leading up to it. Pit is difficult but not impossible. I’d just be patient for now and see what happens.

I mean I wasn't asking about the availability of lawn lol. I just wanted to know what people's experiences were like with lawn as a solo traveler.

My first ever DMB show in 2000 was solo on the lawn at the gorge (solo camped in D9 too). I had planned to meet a group of friends up there, but they ended up not going so I just said fuck it and went anyway. Good decision, set me on the path.

I'm a bit of an introvert so I just chilled solo and enjoyed the show, but would not be hard to converse with all the good peeps around you.

If you're on the fence I vote to do it.

I appreciate the story! I'll definitely be going, just trying to decide whether to do lawn for a night or get seats for one night. So far I have a single lower for N1 and pit for N2. I may end up selling the lower and getting something else, cause the seating seems sort of atrocious, even though my seat is really decent. It's pretty close to center on the lower left side, but I find the idea of being squeezed into a long row of seats less fun than just getting a lawn for N1 and going pit the next two nights.

We did seats last year on N1 and didn’t love it. Too crowded and couldn’t overly get into the show. We enjoy the lawn and pit a lot more.

Yeah, it really depends on your tolerance for discomfort. Most of my shows at the gorge (many) have been in reserved seats, some great, some good and some mediocre. For me it's been worth occasional discomfort for the superior sonic experience and sight lines you get down below versus the lawn. But, everyone is different and if you're going pit for two nights it might be nice to have one relaxing night on the grass so that you can experience both.

From my experience I disagree that the lawn has much more space, it's people everywhere all spread out on a steep hill which makes it a pain to leave and come back to your spot. Also the sound isn't as good as the seats or pit. I've only been in the lawn, seats, and pit one night each so just giving my two cents from that.

There is something to be said for just being able to go back to your seat with little to no worry. I've never done lawn at Gorge, I always say I'm going to and then just back out and get seats for our crew. Also as you said, I can't imagine the sound is too good (although I know people praise how good the sound on the lawn is there).

Also as far as seats being too crowded, maybe CScottRun can confirm this but iirc our seats for N1 last year we could basically pick where we sat within the 2 rows we had around our crew. And they were good seats in section 203.

Was there a reason it was so empty?

I'm on the terrace with it being completely flat, room to lie down, good sound and views of the scenery, etc.
