Re: DMB - SPAC, 7.2.2004 Sirius Broadcast (mastered by djamieb)

got through the whole show and.....WOW. sounds fantastic. it's not an exaggeration to say this sounds better than many official releases. for example, i went back to the the R&R from this show released on the Come Tomorrow bonus disc, and djamieb's mix is FAR superior. more depth, breadth, clarity and balance. i then compared it to R&R from LT50 (hershey) and, again, this mix is much better. LT50 sounds so flat and lifeless but djamieb's is so lively and engaging.

well done djamieb, keep 'em coming

Yeah, I love LT50, but not the mix. It does not give the show the justice it deserves.

Jamie, if you take a stab at remastering LT 50 I’d definitely (and gladly!) pay you for it.

I would be more than willing to start a Patreon account or something like that where we could donate some money to you to remaster some of the LTs or other official releases that would go over the top with a little extra work.

Just finished Pig and am excited to get through the rest of the set! I had a choice among three new items to listen to this morning (Jamie's re-mastered SPAC, the WH Sacramento show, or the WH Dave & Carter set - since I'm a January WH renewal). I'm glad I picked this one first. Thanks so much, Jamie!

Maybe just me, but never heard the Marlon Brandon reference on Good Good Time before... so clear to hear it lol

You chose correctly. Though the Dave & Carter set is pretty special if you haven't heard it. But that 2004 show is one of the best releases in awhile.

Ya. How did they mess up the mix on LT50? The tape though not as clear has much more overall energy to it. LT50 is pretty lifeless. It sounds like the band is flat and so is Dave, which certainly was not the case that night.

This was my first time listening to this show but doesn't he also sing about a bug walking in his hair or something in The Stone? Kinda cracked me up.

I we do that, I would be more than happy to tale all the money that I give annually to the Warehouse and donate to Djamieb. With my heart!

(and of course I will close with the WH)

I know.. I just listened to that part and noticed it for the first time. I wonder how stoned he was! It's like he's seeing if anyone is paying attention to it... So funny.

I could be wrong, but I think you need to be very careful with something like this. Taking money to enhance something like a LT, then redistributing it randomly seems like a slippery slope.

Yes. I think it's at best a grey area in terms of legality. You're altering an artists officially released content for profit without their permission... It's one thing to do it for free it's another to get paid for it.

Exactly this. Making something free that isn’t seems like something management would take issue with. We should focus on radio streams and whatnot

We are listening to his remastered version of a Sirius exclusive, so we can't be too preachy about the legality of it all. But I understand, so OP, if you ever decide to do this on your own time and own dime, I would listen in a heartbeat.

I’m a singer/songwriter and producer, too, and it’s such a fun thing to work on your own music, right?! I’ve recorded several of my songs during the pandemic and have been releasing them as singles every couple months on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. since I’m getting all this extra time at home. Having that creative outlet and so much time with my little family has definitely been a silver lining to all of this craziness over the last year. Hope your album process goes smoothly and that it becomes an enjoyable time for ya'!

I’ll definitely let you know! I HOPE I’m close to the finish line. I’ve been working on it for a year. Learning how to mix is not a linear process and I’m trying to be patient with myself. Also i have no real speaker system for playback so I have to mix in ear-buds and then try to listen on other mediums just see if it even really sounds like what I thought it did! I’m excited to share it though. I appreciate your interest!

How can I find you on Spotify?

I am no audiophile but I am shocked at the difference in this remaster. Just listen to the first 30 seconds of Grey Street between the raw FLAC and this remaster and you will become a believer !!

Thanks for your efforts.....the raw file are indeed "muddy" and you fixed that !!

The original broadcast sounded like a slightly better mix of LT 26, this remaster sounds more like LT 8 which is good.

I’ve been a long lurker but I needed to finally make an account to say that this recording is excellent and right on par with the 2004 LT’s and may even be better. Thank you for doing g this OP, and if you have a collection of more things you’ve done/will do, please let me know

Also, I must say the initial mix on this is great. Boyd is great, I can hear Dave’s guitar, Roi is sweet and smooth. This might be my favorite unofficial remastered show

Some really good versions of the 04 songs here..and it makes you think yet again, what if...what if the band had followed through with these tunes on Stand Up and done away with a lot of the duds.

An album with GGT, Sugar Will, Crazy Easy, Shotgun, Break Free, Break for It, Hello Again, YMDT, American Baby Intro, Out of My Hands, American Baby, #27, Cornbread, Steady As We Go....that's a really, really solid record.
