Re: The Gorge Q&A and FAQs

There's something about the gorge that just doesn't make you hungry.... I'm usually starving all the time. At the gorge the only times I was really hungry was post show.

For the standard camping pass at the gorge, can you bring RV's? Premier parking says you can bring larger vehicles but it doesn't say anything for the base level.

Want to make sure we don't show up and get turned away. Can't wait!

    THANKS!!

I have a question - I'm going through my annual post-spac depression. when does that end and gorge excitement begin?? TWO MONTHS IS TOO DAMN FREAKING LONG

on a more serious note, will a lot of people here be in the regular (not premier) camping and will a lot of people be swimming all weekend or just thursday - cause we plan on getting there at around 8pm thursday. also will that arrival time give us a terrible spot on the campgroud?

also what is really the big difference between premier and regular camping? i dont want to be out in that little tumor area - id rather stay in that main circle.

in the booklet it says people will be in premier to feel safe - is that really an issue? im fine with the lack of sleep but i want to feel safe

Here I am thinking that I can't believe Gorge is only two months away! Haven't even seen my first shows of the tour yet.

As far as I know, if you get in on Thursday, you'll get a better spot and probably more space, even come 8pm. That little "tumour area" is overflow camping, they'll try to fill up the main circle first, so you'll probably be in the main circle coming in Thursday night. It's the Friday entry that is more jammed up and crazy. But don't take my word for it, I haven't camped at the Gorge campgrounds since it was all general camping, so what do I know?

As far as safety, I have heard many stories of theft in general camping. Coolers pilfered, tents slashed, that sort of thing. Lock your valuables in your vehicle and take your keys with you for the shows, and you'll generally be ok. Make friends with your neighbours (beer goes a long way!); they can keep an eye on your campsite when you go wandering for showers, honey buckets, food or general entertainment. And you can do the same for them. That being said, if you get a bad vibe from your neighbours, chances are you can (and should) try to re-locate before you set up camp.

Feel free to come visit us in the Gorge thread for general chit-chat!

Been going to the gorge since 1999, never stayed anywhere but general camping. I'm still here. District 9 is where it's at.

    Premier isn't immune to theft.

Quick question: Given that the opening acts have been announced, will we be able to enter/leave/re-enter the amphitheater or is it "once you're in, you're in for the night" kind of thing?

When the event has been labeled a "Caravan" there have been in/out privileges, but if they are simply opening acts there hasn't been re-entry. We probably won't know until closer to the actual event.

In order to access the river for floating or swimming you need to drive to it and the majority of people hang in camp instead.

We camped general last year and arrived at 7:30 and got an amazing spot with lots of room!! Also had amazing neighbours and had zero issues!! Safety was not a problem whatsoever and I sometimes wonder if it is exaggerated a bit!! Get ready for the weekend of your life!!

Where do you guys go to get stuff (groceries, extra camping stuff, booze, etc.) once you're in Seattle?

Liz - You're spreadsheet said you were going to stop in Issaquah last year. Is that easier/better/more convenient than stopping in Ellensburg?

I'm thinking the best thing to do is to stop somewhere where you can jump off and on I-90 fairly quickly... It also looks like there area a couple of Walmart's in Renton and Bellevue (yes, I know that Walmart is frowned upon in the Gorge thread), has anyone ever stocked up at either of those and then made the trip to the Gorge?

we always stop at fred meyer and get everything we need. if we think of anything over the weekend we forgot, we just borrow from neighbors, or drive to that gas station like 15 minutes from the campground which has a pretty good selection of essentials.

be warned though: no matter how much or how little you bring as far as supplies, you will always have more than you'll use

Freddie's in Issaquah will probably be better stocked than Eburg. Ellensburg has a huge Ro DAY o on LDW in addition to the dMb. We went to Eburg last year on Wed and they were already out of some items.

    Truth and truth.

I am cutting back hard core on supplies this year... except booze and beerz.

I will be bringing some delicious Bootah Brews.

    We did Issaquah because:

    a) It's right off the highway, super convenient. Jeff likes to be ON THE ROAD ASAP and this got us out of Seattle and a little bit closer to our destination.

    b) There is a Costco and a Fred Meyer right there. Costco hotdogs FTW!

    c) We needed a LOT of mint for mojitos, which can sometimes be hard to find, so there is also a Safeway nearby as backup for that. We got all our booze at Costco because it's cheap.

    d) I like lists.

    e) Like others have said about stores in Ellensburg, stock levels are likely better further from the Gorge. We figured this way we'd have options if we couldn't get something we needed there, we'd make other stops en-route in search of supplies.

Remember, it is also the Ellensburg Rodeo the same weekend. Lots of out of towners in E'berg that weekend buying supplies off the shelves.

We're renting through Sixt, too, as are a few others that I know of. They get some mediocre reviews, so it seems maybe a bit risky? We're picking up on Wednesday so we figure if they screw us over we have time to fix the issue.

Anyone have actual experience with renting from Sixt at SeaTac?
