I agree that Northerly would have been a better pick.
I came from Minnesota to see both DMB shows last year and the N2 D&T show the year before at Northerly and had a great time but had seats for all 3 shows.
I don't think I'd enjoy seeing it from the lawn, but after figuring out the bus is the best way of getting to and from that venue I wouldn't ever hesitate going there again. I'm skipping the Tinley show this year because as someone traveling to Chicago, Tinley is too far away from the city to easily get there and too close to the 4th of July where I don't want to be traveling on the holiday even if it's only an hour flight for me. If they would have done 2 nights at Northerly the weekend before the 4th I would have not hesitated at all about going to see them again.
As for replacing Northerly with Alpine, and I know I'm in the minority on these boards about it, I really don't enjoy 5 hour drives, I'm not a camper and the hotels around there are insanely expensive, and don't consider tailgating all day how I want to spend my vacation days because there really isn't much to do there.
Compare that to Chicago last year where it's a cheap 1 hour flight to get there, I was staying on average $89/night in a really nice downtown hotel, great restaurants, plenty of museums, tours, the zoo, and other things to do during the afternoons seeing them at Northerly is something I'd do every year simply because it's a complete vacation for me not just hanging around until the concert starts.
