Missing Money?
This may seem a little bit random...a friend of mine just told me about it - and I had unclaimed money I guess.

I have yet to go through with the whole process - so I don't know what the outcome will be. All it says is "over $100" - it looks like it was from an internship I had in NYC 5 years ago....very odd.

Anyone heard of this site before? You may as well take a look - takes 5 seconds...

    I never come up in these. But I know several people who have, and some are large amounts. All I can think is how in the hell can you not realize you have that sum of money just left behind somewhere?

    I had some money in there. It was from an apartment I lived in 4 years ago. After we moved out, we got a notice saying we owed them $150 for damages etc... We never paid it.

    I guess they didn't do something right on their end, because they owe each of us $150 according to the Texas Comptroller. Of course, they never notified us that they owed us money, so there's no way I would have known about it if not for these kinds of sites.

    It doesn't surprise me at all that companies often don't inform their customers/clients that the company owes the client money.

    hmmm ya I could see it in those cases but couple people I know forgot about bank accounts and stuff.

    weird, i found two records for when i lived in VA - just submitted an official inquiry, we'll see what happens...

    my wife had one for 'over $100' in minnesota, see how that one turns out.

    huh

    I checked for myself and my parents and didn't find anything, however my grandfather had the same first initial as my dad, and one came up with that initial and last name and its on the same street my grandfather lived on. over $100. i'm gonna have to look into that.

    It's reported to your state comptroller. It may just be someone with the same name as you, but someone with your name has unclaimed property with the state comptroller.

    Go to your state comptrollers website and search there if you're worried about it. The comptroller site is a government site, giving that site your info is no different than requesting your driving record on a DPS or DMV site. The comptroller is who you're going to have to deal with to get the money anyway, these type sites just search for you, they can't get the money for you.
