Pretty sure when they were on the ballot last year it was already stated that it was Dave, Stefan, Carter, Boyd, Roi, Tim, Jeff, Rashawn and I believe Butch as well. No Buddy and no Griesar. Apparently it's not up to the band. I know Boom didn't go in with Pearl Jam either.

DMB will be back on the ballot once the powers that be have already decided that they're going to let them in. They can't let DMB repeatedly win the fan vote (which I believe they will whenever they're nominated again) and continue to ignore the results.

While I get why that change in name seems appropriate, those who run the Rock Hall of Fame truly do believe they are STILL talking about influences on ROCK. Rock itself has evolved and always will keep doing so (we hope), but this is still about what music has influenced rock.

Rock was born of African-American Blues & Roots music, as well as white folk music, almost all of those genres themselves evolving from music from other countries. Rock N Roll has always been a mish-mash of influences, and it's continuing to be so. There are many major rock acts who would say they count Jay-Z, Run DMC, Dionne Warwick even as major influences. We may not hear it in say every Metallica song, but it doesn't mean those writing and playing that music weren't shaped by them.

So I respect opinions that it should be renamed; it just feels important to point out WHY even if it stays the "Rock Hall of Fame" the variety of genres admitted is still valid and makes sense. (Just to be clear, not judging every individual choice, cuz there are many I'd say don't belong in there and others never admitted yet who DO belong, but that's the fun discussion we will always have about who's legit and who's not! )

Adding: I'd never call Prince a "rock act", well, honestly Prince defies definition, he truly earned his own category of music. But whatever you categorize him as, his ability to SLAY rock music on guitar, and more importantly his influence on so many rock artists and on the genre, is gigantic.

Just one of so many examples of an artist who's had huge influence on rock, even though usually not labled a "rock" act. And someone who unquestionably deserves their spot in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

Kate has rarely toured, once in '79 and once in 2014 and only 10 shows outside of the UK. The last shows she did were a run in England that were encouraged and organized by her kid(s?).

Maiden is still great live, thanks almost entirely to the ageless voice of Bruce Dickinson.

I'm not hugely enthused by any of the nominees this year, although I think Fela, King, Maiden, Tina, & LL in particular deserve induction. Each year of the last decade at least shine a bigger and brighter light on what an insincere club this is...no real rules.

DEVO needs to get in already. They were the pioneers of the New Wave movement and are super influential. Also, Mark Mothersbaugh has had a huge career in scoring. I think every single person has heard a tune of his and doesn't realize it.

Plus, they're from Ohio!

With how many rappers they already have in the HOF, Jay Z is an obvious first first ballot choice. I agree that rappers probably don't belong, bu thats just how it is.

Foo Fighters on the other hand, maybe deserve a spot because it is the Hall of Fame, but theres no way they're one of the greatest bands of the 90s. One of the most famous and longest lasting, sure, but thats because they've been consistently pumping out generic, easily-digestible radio rock for the last 25 years.

Foo Fighters are bland as hell. Some good songs, but I don’t really feel they’re hall worthy. Certainly not over several of the other 90’s acts who haven’t gotten in yet *points and stares intensely at Smashing Pumpkins specifically*

Jay-Z on the other hand is the biggest act of the 00’s, of course he should get in on his first try.

I don't think that's what they are saying, they're (and I'm) saying if they were so obvious of choices for first ballot...then why wasn't DMB? Who have arguably had bigger Billboard success, not to mention that whole shattering of the fan vote thing.

I honestly shook my head at Todd Rundgren but whatever.

The Rock Hall is a great place to visit and see things, but it's by no means perfect.

I think you’re downplaying how influential of a songwriter Carole King was with early Rock and Roll. While I don’t care for her as much as a performer, The Beatles and many other acts from the 60s had big hits with her songs.
