Re: COVID-19/new coronavirus thread

I’ve had some friends post about their symptoms after the vaccine and how they would still get it 100/100 times

I had a doctor friend who’s post went viral about It

Merck pulled the plug on both of its vaccines.

Johnson & Johnson is going to be the biggy. I feel like once their vaccine is approved we're going to see people being vaccinated faster because it's single dose.

I think Trump won Berks County by 16 points in 2016, not sure what the # was this year. That data tells me the people who live in Reading, many of whom are transplants from PR and DR and VERY transient, don't vote

And it only requires normal refrigeration.
    It’ll definitely speed things up.

I swear I saw Faucci say last week he thought they’d be presenting their info to the FDA by the last week in January, but now it’s looking like mid-Feb.

I say today they hope to have 100M out in the US by the end of June

Which puts fall on track for some normalcy

calling them nutjobs is a bit divisive and generalistic, don't you think?

Got my first jab an hour ago. I was able to score vaccine pits last night in the first minute of an eventbrite drop. Parents both got one 2.5 weeks ago. All Moderna.

After tens of thousands of second doses it looks like our people are going to wind up being a couple percent of the people had reportable complaints mostly noting muscle aches, joint pain and head aches within 72 hours but as many as half reporting excessive injection site pain (I didn't see the site pain reported by the entire system, just some of the facilities). The number of people that called off within 72 hours has been less than a percent. Purposely loading appointments for Thursday/Friday has been stopped it's been so low. The number of people for serious (need for treatment; benadryl or more) adverse reactions is a percent of a percent level.

Anecdotally of the ~100 or so people I know of personally only one called off the next day so far for that day only. Most of us felt the site pain (reminds me of a wasp sting after the fact as a level of pain comparison). For me, it wasn't any worse than the first dose but others said second was worse. We are well into non-direct contact second doses.

We are dropping our rates of pretty much everything awful regarding covid at the moment but I don't think I'm going to ever forget the constant stream of rapid responses, codes etc overhead from every floor of the hospital all day long and I don't think many of us are exhaling quite yet but it's going in the correct direction for the first time in way too long. I am really ready to get off this roller coaster and am hoping that we will chill back into things evening out. We really need to learn and manage it all better.

Hope that helps someone feel better about things.

EDIT: Made it a little more generic.

Why do we have to pretend to be fair to people who have bought all in to conspiracy theory?

Nah, the anti-vax folks are nutjobs who spread dangerous lies.

Got the shot 3 days ago now. Arm is still a little sore and the area around the shot is still hard. Much less pain that yesterday, but still can't pitch batting practice for another day or 2

Over the weekend, my co-worker went to a baby shower (indoors, no mask in pictures) and hosted 12 people for darts and UFC fight in her garage. She is working from home today because she doesn't feel good.

    Really awesome. Asshole.

My fiance had a staff of hers test positive for COVID. Over the weekend this person went out to dinner with someone.

Thanks but the docs and nurses are the real MVPs. I just go in and help flip people around because it's easier to have a gorilla or two to help out rather than a herd of 90lb nurses. I just do it between chart review and office stuff. I'm never in full dress more than a few hours.

Hope the partner is well man. Take care of her.

I'm glad. I try not to post too much in here as it's a hot button topic for me and I try to only post things I have some personal experience with or have seen data I know the source of. Way, WAY too much shit from random internet experts that don't actually do anything with the patients, care or actual work. Too many analysts and people wanting to make a name for themselves on twitter and the like.
