These are two of the more well thought out and interesting questions I've ever seen suggested. Dave is a really interesting, intelligent guy, and it would be interesting to hear him answer a question like that.
I'd be interested in hearing more about what happened around 2000 and 2004. Not in a negative way, but to seriously grasp what was going on to make them go in such drastically different directions and pass on material that was so well received. As some may know, I like Stand Up. I still would have preferred those 04 songs with an albums worth of material in the same vein as what they were writing. I mentioned this in another thread, but I understand Dave probably needed to do his own thing after the Lillywhite/Everyday/Busted Stuff debacle. With that said, had he just taken a little time off after that, I think he could have come back and instead of doing Some Devil when he did, mix some of those songs with finished 04 songs and you have yourself an incredible comeback album.
