Pharrell just announced the second Some In The Water festival. I wonder if DMB will be part of that.

    Re: 2020 Tour Rumors

I could see DMB performing at Bottlerock Napa Valley this year. I was in attendance last year and they would fit the demographic perfectly. It's May 22-24, so it could fit into the tour as a one off after a Southern leg of the tour with the usual Texas two step. A lot of bands play that as a one off too, Mumford last year played a show in England on Saturday afternoon, flew out to CA to headline Sunday night, and then flew right back to Europe to continue tour. Just pure speculation but might make a lot of sense. And, Bottlerock has been well known to have some acts that headlined KAABOO Del Mar the previous year.

You can bank on it. Dave said as much in the video he put out after their set at the first iteration of the festival was cancelled. Pharrell did DMB's Cville show so DMB will do Pharrells. And since Something in the Water fest will be back, a standalone Virginia Beach show is almost certainly out again.

Via friend who produces the event:

    https://www.jacksonholewy.com/events...le-rendezvous/

Offer has been made to Pearl Jam and DMB to co-headline the event in March 2020. He told me their music budget quadrupled from last year.

    Will know prior to Thanksgiving.

Sorry but that doesn't add up. These concerts are free, not sure how they could afford them both. Also, March in Jackson Hole, and it's an outdoor festival/concert? Talk about miserable.

IMO, the chances of them announcing a year off in 2021 are 0%. With them clearly regretting the last year off in 2017 (which was only done so Boyd could get his act together, which proved to be a waste) and Buddy having re-invigorated them, there's no reason for them not to play.

That said, doing some Caravan weekends on top of an otherwise slightly-curtailed touring schedule would be an excellent and welcomed means of marking the anniversary.

Do we know if there's any truth behind this statement? I mean it sounds logical and I've heard it here before, but did I miss some official word regarding the off year?

Barring admission from Boyd or a tell-all bio of DMB (authorized or not), it is extremely unlikely that there will ever be an official statement from the band regarding this.

All indicators point to this, including the last minute "break" announcement from Boyd. Unless there were some health OR family issues that involved others members that were overlooked/well-hidden, it's clear Dave was totally up for a 2017 tour. Boyd's issues remain the only obvious causes for the 2017 break...

Agreed, and I can't think of any other logical explanation, but what was the official reasoning for the 2011 hiatus (that eventually became the caravans, but were initially described as a year off from touring)?

    From Warehouse News:

    May 14 2010 - A Message To Our Fans

As we feel the excitement building for this summer, we wanted to let everyone know that after twenty years of consecutive touring, Dave Matthews Band will be taking 2011 off. We feel lucky that our tours are a part of so many people's lives, and wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible. We're excited to make this summer one of our best tours yet, and look forward to returning to the road in 2012.

    Jan 19 2011 - Summer 2011

2011 is our 20th anniversary as a band and we want to celebrate by playing music together. While we are still taking the year off from touring, we have decided to plan four multi-day, multi-artist music events that will take place this summer. We will be sending out save the date emails and announcing more information soon but we wanted to share the news with our fans first.

It's conjecture, to be clear, but...

Dave & Tim went on tour together.

I recall multiple reports of fan interactions with Carter, Stefan, Jeff and Rashawn where they essentially were all like "we're not the reason for the break, we have no idea why we're not touring".

Boyd had well documented health issues in the years before the break and was a core member of the band.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's most likely a duck.

Interesting, I never thought of the 2017 break as a way to for BT to get his act together.
