All right, VA Beach PD. Up and down each parking aisle, and over a dozen tickets I saw personally handed out. Guess what, people DRINK at tailgating parties. No grills either!!! C'mon. Great show!!!!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong. I've been to four this year and this one and Raleigh were outstanding, but I have never encountered such a police presence. Isn't the murder rate in VA Beach pretty bad, and they're worried about f***ing tailgaters. Shame on them! Between Manassas' shitty sound system and the dumb cops in VA Beach, oh and don't forget the crazy naked guy at JPJ, Dave should just avoid VA all together and double his shows in surrounding states. And I LIVE in VA!!! Sorry, VA Ants, something has to be done! PS.......FREAKING HALLOWEEN BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats weird b/c i had no problems with the cops last night...we were parked in premier and saw 1 cop in over 2 hours...and we were drinking pretty heavy (along with "other" things)...that sucks though for those who werent so lucky

I am not against ALL cops...but some can really be dicks just for their own pleasure and thats what pisses me off. They are not protecting anyone.

I'm sure there is some venue protection for people who are in premiere parking. Cops leave them alone.

Get over it. Like the other post said. The law is the law. It's not that we get off on writing you tickets. I've been underage the past 3 years at the Virginia shows and haven't been bothered once. If you were being a jackass in the lots then take your tickets and move on. Sorry for bitching about the bitching. But this is the third thread I've seen on this board about police officers. Getting old. Have fun at a show but be somewhat mature about it.

when i was a va beach i had an empty beer can in the bed of my truck, it was old and the cop came up and said there was no drinking, i told him i wasnt drinking and then he asked me about the beer can, i told him it was old and i had to grab it and let him touch it to prove that it was hot and not from that night.

The law is not the law. The police make decisions on what laws they want to emphasize, and which ones they don't. There are some venues (Shoreline being one), that even the sight of alcohol will cause law enforcement to harass, so it is not always when someone is acting like a jackass. The irony is that law enforcement is making substantial money (time and a half) to be at these shows, and at some venues, don't treat the attendees with any respect.

And its not the officers faults......theyre either told to be super strict, or theyre told to target certain crimes.

Besides the fact that each individual officer has the ability to use their own judgement, and besides the fact that part of the problem is how each of these individual officers speak to citizens in a disrespectful way (in many cases), that is irrelevent. The topic of the thread was critical of police for their actions, and it doesn't matter if these decisions were made by individual officers or management, it is still the police.

Without getting into the larger issue of law enforcement not giving you problems if you didn't do anything wrong (unless you want to, since it is pathetic claim), in regards to tailgating - drinking a few beers before a Dave Matthews Band concert is not doing anything wrong.

Says who?

Many venues/states have laws in place that make tailgating in those lots 100% illegal.

Nissan Pavilion in Bristow VA has VA law that prohibits tailgating. Does that make it the police officers faults? No. Maybe you should be directing your anger at the venue officials or the state legislature.

Though at Nissan, it depends on the show on whether or not that will be enforced strictly or not.

I grew up in VA, and I go back there to see my family several times a year, and it never ceases to amaze me how absurd the police and lawmakers are there. I'll never move back because of it. VA treats drinking as if it's a high crime.

The sad fact of the matter is they would rather run over someone's constitutional rights against unlawful search and seizure in search of a beer than arrest dangerous criminals, because it's more profitable.


I hate to say it, but the only way to retaliate is to write the band, and then just skip that show. I went to a WSP show outside of Austin TX last summer where the police where hassling everyone over some very mild tailgating, and I'll never go back.

There's just no call for giving people a hard time who aren't hurting anyone.
