I'm a younger fan that wasn't around when the Lillywhite Sessions was leaked, and I never got it and instead grew up listening to Everyday, Live at Folsom Field, etc. and on. I just downloaded the entire album, tagged each song, and put them in iTunes, and I listened through. All sound like demo tracks, but very deep, emotional cuts.

I've been listening to Monkey Man and tLTS Captain on repeat for the past few days. Amazing tracks. They need to play Monkey Man live.

The last Captain I heard live was in September of 2015 at its last show before being added to the liberation list. That show killed the song for me because they had Herbie Hancock guesting, and I'm not sure what was going on that night, but the show flow sucked when Captain came around (just no energy whatsoever). I have a ton of respect for Herbie's own work on Head Hunters etc., but he sounded so off playing on Captain. Not really sure where this is going, but basically, I was later inspired to listen to the song on Busted Stuff again where I picked it back up, and now having listened to it on tLWS, I see it as a quiet masterpiece live.

Two of my all time favorite songs. It’s a damn shame Monkey Man never saw the light of day. As far as Captain, I love all the variations/evolutions of that song. The early acoustic versions are amazing (96-97 solo/D&T). Of course the LWS version is insanely dark and beautiful at the same time. Such an amazing track. But I even love the BS version, a real jazzy and funky take on that song, and it translates really well in the full band live setting.

The live version from the Warehouse five disc is amazing, as is the Gorge 02 (Sinclair YouTube video is tits) The 2015 versions were all great as well. I was there when they played it in the acoustic set at WPB, and I was not expecting it to be extended with a trumpet solo, I was losing my mind. Alpine bonus disc version nails it, and as a huge Herbie Hancock fan, I absolutely love the version with him from 2015. It’s a slower solo, but I really dig it.

The 2015 West Palm Beach version of Captain is absolutely awesome

I just asked Stefan and Lillywhite if Monkey Man is dead because the riff similarity to So Right or if it has a chance to come back via Twitter. We'll see if I get an answer.

Threw on LWS starting with Sweet Up and Down while walking the pup. Made it to Grace is Gone. Big Eyed Fish alone is enough to make you say, “........what in the actual FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?!?!?!”
Roi’s subtleties. This project may be he and Boyd’s best work together. The harmonies, melodies and counter melodies the two of them play off each other is masterful.

Listening with good headphones is a nice treat. Hearing Roi play so soft in your left ear on the 2 and 4 in the first verse of BEF...that’s what made DMB so great.

    20 years this March.
