Yeah, I am talking about a FREE DMB solo show at C-Ville for a benefit with a dull DMB set. I believe that the stadium fills up with no issue. I believe the UVA students on campus alone would fill that venue.

I know it is a smaller stadium, but if DMB put on a FREE concert at Rutgers here in NJ for no reason at all, it would be sold out and filled up.

Why does this thread always show as having unread posts (bolded), and doesn't take me to the first unread post?

I think this site's fan base is a little out of touch with the College crowd. DMB is still extremely popular with the College crowd here in NJ at least. Everyone I met in College at Rutgers (during my second degree) knew who DMB was at 18-21 years of age. Many of them were going to see DMB in 2016 and D&T this year. I find it hard to believe that DMB is that much more popular in NJ than they are in C-Ville.

Of course people are going to know who they are. I am saying the draw for the shows will be more towards the pop acts.

I know what you were discussing, I read it.

My first sentence read..."You're only talking DMB."

I'll break that down into, yes, DMB could not fill that stadium, throw in the other acts and yes, that stadium can be filled.

I don't get why people are underestimating this event. You take DMB out and it still fills up, just fine. There's no way this is going to be a bust.

Yeah, no doubt that the pop acts will draw the attention of everyone on campus of all backgrounds.

I disagree with this. That said, it just my opinion which many on hear apparently don't share. I just find it hard to believe that C-Ville has less DMB fans than NJ. Or at least would appear that way.

You probably missed the post a few days ago where DMB had to cancel the 2nd show at this exact stadium in 2001 because of poor ticket sales. This is Charlottesville not NYC/ NJ which is probably their biggest draw in the country

I just don't personally think many single bands nowadays can fill an almost 62K+ capacity stadium, that's all. Not that it can't or doesn't happen, obviously.

But I do agree that DMB obviously has a big draw in C-Ville.

That fair enough. I guess hometown doesn't mean that much when you are talking about Virginia. I just figured they would be close enough to get the draw from D.C. and Richmond as well.

I do have a skewed view having only ever lived in NY/NJ and Boston.

I wonder how much chatter there will be from the acts. Great cause, of course, but a little worried it may get excessive. One of the many things about DMB I like is that they don't encourage the crowd to do silly things (clapping in unison, have the two sides of the audience play off each other, etc.). I'm sure Dave will do his part to address the reason for the concert, but don't think he will over-do it.

Hmm interesting to think about what bands easily could fill that size stadium.

My list off the top of my head:

    Rolling Stones
The Dead & Company (or Grateful Dead should Phil decide to ignor FTW)
    Phish
    U2

someone had mentioned in this thread that there was not really enough time to put on a webcast. Don't they just need a professional camera or two and a link to the internet (bring in You Tube to do it).

....really? Cause the west coast swing of the CG tour starts after the C'Ville show, and the last show of the first leg was 8/26. Why would he state that on the day of the C'Ville show announcement?

It is interesting when you stop to think about it... I also think Kenny Chesney would definitely.

Totally, I just didn't include solo artists. I just meant bands.

Honestly, Rihanna, T-Swift and a few others could probably sell out those stadiums on their own.

Because he'll see you coast to coast (Cville then West coast with CG).

Or couch to couch, because he streams the CG shows, and has his own twitter thing going on.

My advice, don't over thing boyd tweets.

UVA has a student population of 22k. If every single student went, it would barely fill 1/3 of the stadium.

Hasn't Coldplay been selling out stadiums on their current tour?

Taylor Swift can sell out probably almost any stadium in the country, except maybe the 100k+ capacity ones.
