The fan base just can’t appreciate the jazzy touch this song has now.

Seek up is one of my favorite songs live...but with this version of the band Buddy's keys sound like I am at a baseball game and about to hear who the next batter is. His keys take a darker and more sinister sounding song and turn it into the 7th inning stretch

??? On a couple songs.. Everyday, and Graves thats about it. He's using an electric piano setting on these jazzy numbers, and it frankly sounds great. Nothing like a "ballgame" organ.

Sorry, its not just you, lots of people keep saying this and it isn't true. I 100% agree with Tyler

I am willing to bet there is a 1:1 correlation.of people who are on the side of not liking Buddy are people who.are in their late 30's and up.and were introduced to the band in the 90's. DMB 4.0 is like the Trump of DMB fandom.

Yeah, I can see that being the case. But then again, most of the older crowd came about when Butch was in the band. Us newer gen fans started in “3.0” with no keys. So I could honestly see it going both ways

Buddy doesn't play organ on Seek Up he plays keys. It’s more like if you didn’t like Butch then you wouldn’t like Buddy. If you enjoyed the sound from 2001-2007 it should be natural to at least like Buddy on most songs. Raven, HA, Warehouse, Typical, Bartender, Seek Up, Grace Is Gone, Last Stop, Captain, and Crush all sound great with he keyboard contributions. Its amazing that some people will continue to say he sucks even after listening to those Bartenders from 2018. Hell, some people on here didn’t even notice him playing on bartender. Like how the hell do you not notice him playing on bartender? I mean he has a major solo in the jam....

I actually liked Butch...the difference is their style of playing is different and butch.was a complimentary piece but with Boyd gone they are using buddy and the rest of the band to play a much more prominent role to fill in the gaps and that is why I think Buddy is so polarizing compared to.Butch

I don’t think buddy is polarizing. The few that don’t care for him are outliers from what I’ve seen in here.

I think what is polarizing is not having a violin in the band and using Buddy, Rashawn, and Tim fill in the gaps.I can only speak for myself but in 20 years of seeing this band I was bored for the first time during a concert and have no desire to see them live again until they add back a violin player.

I am not militant about it and can see why some people like this iteration of the band...I just am not excited to see them live anymore but that is what makes the fans of this band so interesting...so much diversity and opinions.

This, this right here. I don't see how anyone can say any version of a song that has key violin parts being played without the violin can be better, but hey, if you like this then have at it.

I like Stand Up live in its current form. Jeff sounds good on it and I enjoy hearing Buddy do the Shotgun interpolation. The lyrics are always going to be among the worst things they've ever done, but it's a guilty pleasure song.

DMB was, and currently is, a historically great American band. Today’s band is still amazing. Some of the material off of Come Tomorrow is amazing as well.

This is not necessarily an unpopular opinion, but maybe a bit nit picky. Does it drive anyone else crazy how the horn intro to Grey Street they skip one note that was played by LeRoi? It sounds absolutely horrible to me and drives me crazy

I really feel like everything on Come Tomorrow from Samurai Cop to bkddkkdd is a great but the album takes a very steep fall from there.

Everybody Wake Up is a good song. I remember hearing a clip of the chorus on some SU promo video and thinking "damn, this sounds fresh" and honestly my opinion hasn't changed. The studio mandolin/string intro and instrumental shift during the bridge/last chorus are both pretty great and unfortunately, like most songs from that era, are buried in the cringey hackneyed lyrics. But it's hard to hate the sentiment of the message so in all I think the tune is a strong outlier in that otherwise forgettable track list.

I don't think any lineup changes need to be made and I love their current sound (with a few exceptions) but if they did add to the mix I would be as excited about a string instrument that could be picked like Hamilton's bandolin or Bela's banjo as a violin. I like that style of instrument and individual notes with this music, sounded great at The Gorge and obviously Bela's history with them.

I happen to think Do You Remember is very good stuff too. I don't understand the obsession many people here have in trashing it every chance they get. Nothing cringe worthy in the lyrics, a Dave riff that to me is classic, love its melody and instrumentation.

Wow. This is a hot take indeed.

At worst I feel like one can only accurately judge any song on BTCS as being the "least good". This fairly acknowledges that they are all good, just on varying levels from merely to astonishingly...

I am not militant about it and can see why some people like this iteration of the band...I just am not excited to see them live anymore but that is what makes the fans of this band so interesting...so much diversity and opinions.
Yea I'm at the point where the current lineup + song selection is pretty much not doing it for me anymore. I was really checked out for the latter half of my one show this summer.

All the songs I really love sound terrible without a violin (or the current iteration of them). And aside from a few slots in the setlists, it's the same 40 songs being rotated from show to show.

If other people love that...great. But this is probably the first time in almost 20 years of seeing the band where their next tour could be "take it or leave it" for me.
