Yea really don’t understand their antiquated form of announcing a live release then not making it available for another month and a half.

Incompetence.

I haven't looked, but assuming 95 has the most releases (and might not be close?).

August release date is quite laughable. Would’ve been nice for the drive to myrtle in 3 weeks

In terms as of pondering why announce and then wait so long before release...these days they probably want a bit firmer number of pre-orders on the physical copies to go on before ordering X amount to pressing. Granted CDs are super cheap, they likely don't want a ton lying around at the end of the day.

And I'm sure somebody there is like "Well, if we go digital immediately, nobody will buy the physical." Which, collectors are gonna collect. Those who were going to go digital right away were going to go digital right away in the first place.

You might actually get people super eager double dipping on digital and physical if you drop the digital at the time of announcement. But...we are only 10 years removed from AIM icons as pre-order incentive and 17 since AIMs were last relevant...

The release delay has to be for ordering the physical CDs, right? Yeah it's dinosaurish, and at this point they should probably switch to digital-only. But let's be real, DMB's fanbase skews older, so I'd bet a fair proportion of their LT orders are still for CDs.

could/should offer immediate digital download, and for those who order physical CD can simply be print/ship on demand. not that complicated in this day and age.... you'd think

    Exactly….

Makes more financial sense for them to do it that way.

I’d also argue you’d get more spur of the moment purchases because of the instant ability to download and listen at the time of purchase.

A lot of data suggests this to be correct ie: the generation of instant gratification.

Personally, I see an announcement for a release 6-8 weeks in the future and I tell myself I'll check it out then. Then, I forget it and don't really care. Impulse buys are a must in this day and age.

that said, dmb417 if you haven't listened to LT37 do yourself a favor and give it a try. it's from november of 92 so i originally passed on it for the reasons you listed but when i finally gave it a shot i was blown away. incredible performances and fantastic mix. this show really helped open up the early years of dmb for me.
I did listen to it a few years ago, and you're right, the mix is phenomenal, I wish more releases sounded like this, love the band too... But that grating voice on Dave just puts me off.
I do love that version of Help Myself tho, not a song I usually listen to

My absolute favorite DMB release will always be Listener Supported so I've since been chasing a show with a similar sound to LS, which is why I always root for a 1999 LT.
But tbh Dave's Martin is a crucial part of the sound of the show and from what I know he didn't use it much on that tour.

I’m glad to have another #41 from 95. The evolution of that song is great, and this will compliment the two earlier versions we have. (4.7.95, 7.9.95)

This place is quiet because it's a fansite for a 30-year old band that peaked in the year 2000 and hasn't made any real effort to win over new fans for at least 10 years. That's all there is to it. The DMB subreddit is a fairly sleepy place, too.

This release, given it is five days after Red Rocks, made me wonder what Tim will bring to some of these songs. I looked it up, and Red Rocks was the *only* show he guested on with the band that year. So strange. Makes me wonder why he only played Red Rocks, and why he didnt play more with them in the early days. Always assumed because of Red Rocks, Tim played with them more often back then - when in reality - it was incredibly, incredibly rare until the later stages of '98. And then after the Dave and Tim 99 tour, they did not appear together for over four years. Anyone know why he didnt guest more back then? I know he had his own band, etc., but makes me wonder...

Yeah it’s pretty crazy. Other than the ‘98 tour, he only guested one time in 2004 before joining in ‘08.

There are a couple shows he guested on in December 93 that are really cool shows.

From my understanding, they wanted Tim on their first officially released live recording, but he did not want to be part of the band full time due to raising a kid and having his own things going on with solo career and TR3.

Perhaps post 2000 with what we all know about the tumultuous season DMB was in, he didn’t want to be a part of it or the band didn’t want him to be. He was not invited to the LSW or Busted Stuff. Think it was a fairly dark period in the bands history.

Tim joined back up with Dave in early 03 for a short spring tour likely to get warmed up for the some devil sessions. I believe Dave asked him several times between 03-07 if he like to join full time but he always said no.

Not too sure what changed in 08 except for $$$? Being in his 50s at the time and wanting a decent paycheck with a steady 50-75 gigs a year must have sounded good compared to a van packed with 6 dudes, motel stays, bar gigs..

Wasn’t there a rift with he and carter after fall 98 because of Tim over powering the sound?

I'm with ya'! I didn't know that Tim was not touring with the band full time that summer of '95 when I first got into that Red Rocks '95 release. I had assumed for years that he was simply on tour with them that whole summer.

Knowing that Tim joined them for the full Red Rocks gig in '95 as a one-off show that summer makes his performance that night even more astounding to me. It sounds like he'd been refining what he was playing over those songs after months of solid touring with the band. He's flipping perfect on that 8.15.95 Red Rocks show. (And I don't use the word "perfect" lightly here; it's some of the most incredible supporting guitar work I've ever heard, and Tim's a really big part of what makes that RR '95 show so magical to me.)

I wonder when it was decided Red Rocks was going to be their first album? Beforehand? Which is why they brought Tim in for this show? If so, panned out pretty well!

And I agree with the prior post - it sounds like Tim knew exactly what to do and when on those songs, as if he'd been living with them night after night - but nope. Really amazing.

If anyone has a source re: he and Carter having beef after winter 98, I'd be interested in reading it.

He guested with them earlier in the tour. Plus their first headlining gig at Red Rocks is a pretty big deal. They hadn't recorded Crash yet. I don't think they were planning it out. Red Rocks being released was in response the bootlegging incident in 1997 when the lawyers came after bootlegs and independent record stores rebelled against the band.

Plus Red Rocks had a separate soundboard mix and situation going around. in 1997, this was a huge show to them after opening Red Rocks a few times. They continued to bring guests for big shows.

These are really cool!! Thanks for sharing!

I love seeing their itinerary for after the show, too. Crazy that they had to drive 909 miles / 18 hours after Red Rocks for their next show in Iowa!

Crazy I’m probably going to listen to LT60 before the studio album they’ve been working on for +2 years is announced.
