Good. I didn’t pay much attention I thought they were just some random band I didn’t know they had a connection to Gregg and Dickey

Fogerty was great

The dead are the greatest American rock band, I just can’t see an argument that can stand up to what they’ve accomplished esp when you think of how they created an entire genre of music

That's nice, I'm glad to hear that. It's seems like such an obvious mismatch so to hear they kept it friendly is good.

Aerosmith is another one my mom loved and played a lot when I was growing up. They were my first concert my mom took me when I was in 5th grade, felt awesome she let me take the next day off from school.

Toys in the attic is a classic.

I even love their 80s and 90s shit. I love a lot of music I think as pure nostalgia.

    I’ll agree with that.

Musically I like them way way more.(obviously).

Its interesting to think of what would have happened if Duane hadn’t died. They still became huge, but you gotta think Dickeys influence wouldn’t have been as big. Duane was the undisputed leader, everybody listened to what he said.

Another what if is if they broke up after Duane died. I could see Gregg having a Jackson Browne type career with Dickey embarking on a real country rock career.

Criminally underrated 70s band: Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP).

Brain Salad Surgery one of the best albums of all time.

Speaking of ABB, possibly my favorite live band right now is Tedeschi Trucks Band. They are just fire live.

I saw ABB first at Bonnaroo, they played the What stage right before DMB in 2005 and, for my money, were better than DMB that night. They just blew the doors off the place. I've seen them a few other times as well, they always put on a great show.

I'm also just now getting into the Dead. They were a band that has always been in the background for me. I only got into Phish in the last 15 years, and I've slowly expanded my jamband interest. The Dead came back on my radar because I've been following this guy on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5r...6AN8qnRCZ_RkPA

Highly recommend his channel if you like music theory or just like to hear someone who knows music talk about what they are hearing. He has a great ear. A few key vids:

    Ocean by John Butler
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TxwEIyq-Wg

Shakey Graves - Roll the Bones
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAP2VT9hQuI

    TTB - Midnight in Harlem
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDI304JFFdw

He's also doing the entire (or most of) Cornell '77 show, so there is a ton of Dead stuff if you want to see that.

Too each their own. Meddle is by far my favorite Floyd album. It is pretty much an entire album of what I love about Floyd.

He can be seen in that Cher music video where she is dancing around doing her Cher thing on some Navy battle ship.

Listening to some of it now. I think it's just too dream pop for me. The more prog heavy sound of the albums that followed are more my type of thing.

They're probably the least recognizable group in that bunch, but I stand by their inclusion. Innovative, creative, original, influential. Maybe none of them in quantities as much as some of the others there.

They started kinda punkish and steered into alt-rock as they moved on. That was what Carrie Brownstein was known for before Portlandia.
