It'll be nice not renting again. I haven't said much about it because it still feels like a dream.

We're slowly looking at buying a house. Everything here is really pricey if you don't want to live in the burbs, and you're paying a lot for the neighborhood. $280k-$300k gets you an old home that probably doesn't have much in terms of modern upgrades or furnishings. These same houses were probably $230k-$240k six/seven years ago and are exactly the same.

The house we bought would have been 40k less 3-4 years ago. A friend of mine lives down the street and 4 years ago he bought a similar model for almost $50k less than what we paid last month, and his interest rate is a full % pt lower. Our house has more upgrades, but the housing market exploded in the last few years

Shitty time to buy a house, but it kinda evened out because we sold our other house for $25k more than we bought it for in 2011

When I lived in Missouri, our house was 150k for a 3 br, 2.5 bath, two car garage, and a finished basemen. We're getting a much smaller house for over 200k here in Central Florida. Oh well, I'm just happy to be moving soon.

Yeah, we found one house we loved in our perfect neighborhood. Fully remodeled, 2 bed, 2 bath, but it was $290k for a 980 sq. ft home.

    Fucking housing market, man.

I’m thinking of building a house, possibly this fall if everything works out. That’s scary to me.

It's scary when you start out because it's such a big commitment. But man, as you see it being built and then move in, it's so worth it.

I would really look forward to that.

It’s scary because it’s just me. Every decision would be mine. Which may sound like a good thing, but I wouldn’t hate having an other to bounce ideas off. (And the extra paycheck would be awesome too)

I’m researching making it a really “smart” house. Controlling everything by my phone.

There are a lot of decisions that you need to make. My recommendation is to not go with high end finishes that are easy to replace or will wear out. You can save some money there. My thought was why should I pay for things like expensive faucets, hardware, carpet, etc. on a 30 year mortgage.

Agreed. There are many things I know I want in a house, but high end finishes are not near the list.
