I'll try.
Obviously, the bands earlier work with Lillywhite is classic and all of that. Developed their sound, fleshed them out and made good albums. The production is good, the songs are great.
Cavallo got to them at a re-beginning in a way. And Big Whiskey is a great album, it re-captured them, like Lillywhite did originally; but I think Cavallo did it better though.
So with what DMB is now, I think Cavallo is better at capturing the bands current sound in the studio than Lillywhite was originally. In my opinion, you can put your favorite Cavallo studio track against most any favorite Lillywhite studio track and notice.
I also think Cavallo makes them sound better (sonically) in the studio than Lillywhite. Cavallo nailed the tracks he produced on Come Tomorrow.
I will add, Away From The World is my least favorite DMB album by far.
