i was watching scenes from storytellers on vh1 website and he talks about how 41 came from a sound check song and he said that he came up with a bass line and dave played the chords that fonz was playing and that fonz later came up and and came up with the chorus music. so basically saying that fonz wrote the music for #41.

i thought that was interesting.

Ha, well the 41 bass line and chorus aren't really that impressive. The verse rhythm is cool and creative but it's not that complex.

agreed. the lyrics are the best part of this song....the live jam is also pretty sweet

#41 has the same bassline as "Do You Feel Like I Do" by Peter Frampton - he didn't come up with anything.

they all bash on fonz in the music choice thing. im sure none of it is serious and i doubt theres beef between them. if there was im sure they wouldnt want ppl to no about it

he can come off that way in some interviews ie the stand up behind the scenes thing but he really isnt. i mean the whole myspace thing he has done? incredibly generous. he is very down to earth too and cares a lot about his fans.

The chords that Dave plays for the intro isn't just the bassline. I think the notes are A E B C, B F# G D, E A D E, then D A D E, so it's a pretty unique progression you wouldn't get from just the bass.

Either way, #41 is more than chords. Mostly what gives the song its power is the arrangement and vocal melody, I think.

They did a preview of the Gorge DVD back before that set came out and included some interviews in between, hell the Gorge dvd might have this stuff on it too.
