I think autocorrect messed with this post. I believe this is the original message:

"SU is the next group of live songs on an album since BS / ED"

    This is indisputable...albeit still unpopular.

Can't agree with this at all. The LWS version of Captain is miles better in my mind because of the composition of the guitar riff and the lyrics.

I would take a show with Everyday played in full over a show with SU, BW, AFTW, or CT played in full. Probably not super unpopular, but that show would be a banger.

Not saying the album has to be played in order, but all songs from that album making the show. Even DooF (Play it already!) and Mother Father (shivers).

I Did It > Shake Me

SU is the only album I'd take ED over.

I'd rather, however, trade hearing any ED or SU songs live ever again for any songs off of the other studio albums and dozens of unreleased tunes. I wouldn't miss the three to five songs I like from those albums at shows for the opportunity to hear many/any other better songs.

I prolly win unpopular opines for the day. Yay ME!

They're definitely the group that has grown and changed the most in the live setting, imo

I guess that's one of the things I always had confidence in when it came to this band — no matter how it sounded on a record, they would do different things with the material when they started playing it live

When did people start liking ED again? This is something that I find mindboggling. To me it is still hands down the worst DMB album. I do enjoy a couple of songs from it I guess but people talk about that one as if it's some underrated gem lol.

I've always liked ED, CT is my favorite DMB album since ED

Same here. Stand Up is worse, but I don't at all understand these takes about Everyday being better than Big Whiskey. Mind-boggling.

Mercy is the best lead single to an album DMB has ever put out. Change my mind.

I still can't believe the BW backlash that happened after that one came out.

I've always enjoyed ED. The title track and Mother Father are probably the only two songs off the album that are hard skips for me.

Stand Up is unmitigated garbage. Absolutely atrocious in every respect and I don't want to hear about how the songs have evolved to be monsters in a live setting. YMDT is garbage both live and studio. Easy piss break. Dreamgirl and American Baby are the only songs on that album that even resemble DMB, and they're far cries from being "good" DMB songs.

    ED>>>>AFTW>>>>>BW>>>>>>>CT>>>>>>>pinecones shoved in my ears>>>>>>>>>SU

ED is only hated on because of the sessions that were abandoned in its favor. If DMB released ED today, I think it would be warmly welcomed.

Hard disagree. We wouldn't be as surprised at how bad it is, but it would still be bad. Definitely not warmly received, anyway.

I agree 100%. The songs on ED don't sound like traditional DMB but they're superior to the majority of the material on SU, CT and AFTW. If ED came out after CT, I think it would have been lauded as a great DMB 3.0 record. A lot of the complaints that were hurled at ED in 2001 (e.g. There's no violin! Dave is playing an electric guitar! Lillywhite didn't produce! It's too pop!) aren't relevant in the year 2021--everyone accepts there isn't going to be violin, etc. After the nadir that was SU and the ballad fest that was CT, people would be stoked for rockers like So Right Right, What You Are, Dreams of Our Fathers, etc. Fool To Think's musical complexity would be praised and people would say it was rad to hear Dave playing complicated riffs after CT's simple guitar parts. Mother Father would be lionized and fans would be glad to see Dave writing dark lyrics again after the sanguine lyrics that dominated CT. I think I Did It and The Space Between would also avoid the wrath they received in 2001. Sure, those songs aren't as good as the material that preceded them but they're better than anything on SU and shit like TGIY and Can't Stop.

Studio Mercy is better than all three, yes. WWYS may be the only exception. DDTW studio is too slow. Too Much is the worst song from the Big 3. WWYS is nice; love it mostly.

But I think Mercy is the best thing they've done in the studio since the Big 3. The way its mixed. The way the whole band is utilized throughout. And the last minute and a half or so is fucking beautiful. The way the song builds is really nice. Lillywhite outdid himself. Tbh, I think its more Lillywhite that makes the song.

Live however, WWYS and DDTW blow everything else out of the water.
