I've put a little more than 100k miles on my 2007 Mazda6 over the past 10 years and haven't had to spend any money on it outside of regular maintenance. It's fun to drive and has been very dependable.

Never dealt with it with cars, but "base rent" on the lease of the last restaurant I worked at was just the main lease payment. We also had to kick in a percent of sales, pay for damages or whatever else on top of the base rent.

So maybe it's just your lease payment, and you could still be on the hook for mileage overages etc..?

I just asked my wife if she ever figured it out. She said she thinks it’s just her regular lease payment lol.

She’s only had the car for like two months...I told her not to lease a car all she does is worry about miles she is doing

On lease two, roughly 2 years into my second lease. No qualms at all about my first (Subaru Impreza) or my current (crosstrek). Thinking about buying it out once my lease is done.

Never ran into any miles issues, luckily, so I got a great deal on my second lease thru same dealership.

question about buying a used car. if the car had some factory recalls is there a way to prove that the previous owner took the car in to get it fixed?

Look up GMC forums and keep searching that topic. You'll come across better advice that way. That's what I did. If you see a ton of problems around it then you may want to consider a different vehicle.

    What exactly was the recall?

On our first lease of an Outback and so far so good, Subaru has been great to work with.

I don’t know about CA but in PA dealers have to provide you with a disclosure indicating if there are any open recalls on the car before the deal is closed.

right, but there's no way to prove that a previous owner actually took the car in to get it fixed. even though these recalls are typically free, you dont have to bring it in (or maybe you forget).

but i see what youre saying.

    Right. But a few things:

    1. The car fax will show any reported work on the car

    2. The recall disclosure will indicate open recalls

    3. I’m sure there’s an authoritative site out there in which you can get a full of recalls for a specific vehicle

Reconcile those three lists and make the dealer fix any open items before you buy. If they won’t. Walk away or use it get the price down. Then go to a different dealer and get anything open fixed. Dealers are supposed to do it free of charge.

That’s why I said reported work. It’s soley dependent on the shop doing the work to report Carfax. With that said, I’ve seen things as mundane as oil changes on carfax reports.

If we are soley talking taking care of recalls; dealers will report.

My car had a clean carfax. Somebody hit me on the side, and while doing the work they took off the front bumper. All kinds of dented in damage front end, was very clear that the prior owner rammed into a square trailer hitch.

Wasnt reported, must have just fixed the front bumper itself.

FYI, if you are in the market for a new car, tomorrow is the single best day of the year to buy a new Japanese car. End of their fiscal year - they might need 1 sale to hit a bonus. You might be able to get a car at a loss to them.

Currently in the market for a new car, looking for a mid-size SUV with a third row. I drove the Ford Explorer today, and really liked it. I'm also looking at the Dodge Durango, Chevy Traverse, Subaru Ascent, and Toyota Highlander

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or preferences on those choices? edit: Or other suggestions?

I was going to go Ascent but went Forester instead, but those things are soapy tits. Not a fan aesthetically of the Durango, have a lot of friends with the Explorer and they have no complaints, love the storage, seating and general quality of the build.

My dad has a Durango, it reminds me a lot of my Grand Cherokee on the interior (has the same chassis if I remember correctly), and it has a decent sized third row.

I really liked the Explorer, but it is was my first test drive, and I'm comparing to the 10-year old mini van I'm currently driving. Probably anything would be a huge improvement.

Traverse is rated highly, has a lot of storage space and is a bit cheaper than the others.
