Louie was close, sold out theaters across the globe, the fx shows, Horace and Pete, the voice of Max in a a secret life of pets. CK “Live at Carnegie Hall was the last special of his I really enjoyed but around that time he was huge.

Yeah I mean as far as selling tickets, producing tv, all around fame and respect from people in the business, not sure you could come up with someone above him around 2012-2015.

Yea it is odd. They had shows scheduled together this year that got moved, so maybe it was/is in the works.

Sure, if you are including projects outside of stand up because the other top acts weren't doing other stuff. On stage Chappelle and Burr absolutely give him a run for his money in that time (my Chappelle tickets are still some of the hardest ive ever gotten my hands on, including concerts and sports....was a TOUGH ticket!!)

Not a fan in general. Don’t get me wrong I’d see him live, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

I still think burr is overrated.

Hes a great comic but he's never been a guy that makes me cry laughing. Never could get into his podcast really, the ranting just wears me out. I like Bill/Burr though. The angry alpha male thing just doesnt click with me, he's gotten better and more mellow recently since having a kid it seems though.

How can you not like Chappelles show? Some of the funniest bits in history.

I will say the first comeback netflix special was pretty lame, the newest one is much better.

Yeah sometimes it’s over the top. But I went to two of the 18 shows he did at the Wilbur in 2015 and it’s legit the hardest I have ever laughed at anything.

He seems to be much more self-depreciating now, which is something he used to never approach. Im hoping his next special is great. Paper Tiger is like a B/B+ for me, Ive had enough of his takes on cancel culture and me too stuff, so hoping what he does next goes in a different direction.

So if he's a great comic, how is he overrated? One of the best of this century for sure. I hate this whole crossover thing, comparing / lumping in podcasts with stage work. They are two totally different things. I get for the sake of the thread, but generally speaking? Seems silly.

I was lucky enough to see Chappelle last year in Detroit; got a single ticket the day of and it was fucking awesome. It ended up being most of the material that would end up on the Sticks & Stones special a few months later.

Also saw Bill Burr the year prior. He was great too. However, I was pretty wasted at his show so I was prob laughing at everything

As far as stand-up goes, I've seen Lewis Black, Jay Leno and Bill Maher and then Donnell Rawlings opened up for Dave. Don't know if I'd ever be inclined to see Rogan live. Tom Segura is the only other comedian I NEED to see. He was in town back in November too and I really wanted to go but I was trying to save money

I mean its all consumable comedy in one form or another. Im talking in the form of comedians, not strickly stand up acts. I think his stand up act is good, and hes a really funny person, but I personally dont think he's in that top tier of comics the way he is revered. Like I said his ranting style just doesnt work for me. He's undoubtedly one of the most successful from the last decade. F is for Family is awesome.

Segura is the best stand up act out there right now for me.

I had no idea he was going to be opening shows for Dave (he opened the show I saw back in '16 too). Had a really solid set, place went nuts for Ashy Larry!

Ive been a huge stand up fan since high school, seen a ton of the big acts and even more local / regional comics at clubs. Still think the best show I've attended was Chris Rock back in his prime.

Yeah I’ve been pretty lucky to see everyone I need to see I have seen. For awhile I was chasing all the O&A regulars, knocked those out and then I finally saw Jerry, Rock, CK.

    Big Jay Oakerson
    Dan Soder
    Joe List
    Mark Normand
    Sam Morill
    burr

Are the only ones I’ll still see yearly now.

    Oh and Colin Quinn

Whatever one had that long ass crusie ship bit I thought was a weak special.

I’ve never watched F is for family

Sam Morill is great, would love to see him. Speaking of him, I just watched Taylor Tomlinson's (his gf) first netflix special and thought it was really good.

Its hard to pick a favorite female comedian, none truly stand out. I like Nikki a lot but she goes too hard into sex sometimes, Silverman is always great and consistent, I used to think Whitney was a lot funnier but not as much the last few years. That robot special wasnt very good and she's leaned wayyy too hard into feminism and 'men are the worst' type stuff.

I just dont hold podcasts against a comedian if its not great (or vice versa - Rogan doesn't get bonus points for having a great podcast if his stand up isn't good...not saying thats my opinion, just a general example). Podcasts are just so stream of consciousness to me, very random. Its not thought out, written material, which is what I associate with being a good comedian, whether its on stage or on screen. Being a comedian and being funny are two totally different things imo.

F is For Family is hilarious! Was very much looking forward to the next season but guessing that has been pushed back quite a bit.

For me I like the people that I think are naturally the funniest, its why I dig Bert and enjoy the sober october friend circle so much. They all come across as people id genuinely like to hang out with much more so than Burr. Burr is just too serious and irritable naturally and it comes across in his act, so its harder for me to sit for an hour+ long diatribe because its naturally so much more angst driven than lighthearted and laughing at yourself... if that makes any sense. I assume if you grew up in boston/NE that kind of comedy resonates much more with you.

What do you guys think of Ari Shaffir? Weird shit in the last 6-8 months from him but that dual special from a year or two ago i thought was absolutely hilarious. He's a weirdo though.

I’ll have to check it out. I like the at home skits her and Sam have been doing, and Sam telling jokes to his mom has been pretty funny.

female comics. Hmm. Yeah I like Nikki, Corinne Fisher, Bonnie McFarlane,

I assume if you grew up in boston/NE that kind of comedy resonates much more with you.

What do you guys think of Ari Shaffir? Weird shit in the last 6-8 months from him but that dual special from a year or two ago i thought was absolutely hilarious. He's a weirdo though.

I like Ari. I don’t listen to his podcasts or watch his specials, but I like when he is on The Bonfire, YKWD etc. I saw him live once, planned on leaving after joe list but stuck around and he was great.

There is an episode of The Bonfire where Dan and Jay talk about what it’s like to be a friend of Ari, it was after the Kobe tweet. It’s pretty good lol

    What happened to Lisa Lampanelli?

Also not a fan of Ari, on stage or in the podcast world.

Retired. Not sure why, but she just wanted out of the game I guess. I heard she does life coach type stuff with people now, but don't quote me on that cause I'm not certain.

I might need to find that, the kobe tweet was so ridiculous but thats just his personality. Gotta be able to feel that out and have better timing than that

Him drugging Bert in his own house was wild. Idk how he thought that would end up turning into a bit.

What surprised me most about the show I saw was how much I leaned about Jewish traditions and culture.

Just popped into say that Burr, CK, Segura, Rock, Chappelle, Hannibal, & Rogan are my favorite comedians going right now.

Love Louie. Wish cancel culture hadn't gotten ahold of him. His show on FX was one of my favorites.

And you know what? I think it would be way funnier if a guy said "I HAVE A SMELLY VAGINA!"
You're 100% right about the anti-feminism thing. If you replaced all the anatomical bits for male parts, it would still be incredibly gross and still not funny.

Chappelle's entire thing is that he is an enigma.

He has reached a level that I think (by no coincidence) can only be compared to Prince. He is probably the most famous person that is never seen in traditional outlets. He seems to be unanimously considered one of the greatest "hangs" in the celebrity circles, but everything he does is done under cover and people love to talk about "that night they got to hang with Chappelle."

I'm an extremely big fan of Dave and think he really can only be compared to Seinfeld as far as greatest living comedians, with Jerry being #1 just due to his massive commercial success and ability to never produce a cheap laugh (ie: Dane Cook "f word" stare into the crowd; Amy Schumer "i'm a slut haha", etc.).

Dave and Jerry are in complete control. It's not an ego thing in my opinion, they literally have just reached a level of only spending the time they have doing what they want and unless Dave says, I really want to do your show, he doesn't need to do it. I would sure love if he did though.
