speaking of a surprise relating to Nolan Arenado, Tim Kurkjian published a list this past week of what he deems the 5 greatest 3rd basemen of all time (I guess still to this day it's the least represented position at the Hall of Fame). Anyway, he's got Arenado at #2 already. I mean he definitely ain't moving up any higher than that, because he had, very appropriately, Brooks Robinson #1. but, especially being on the other side of the country half the time, I don't know much about Arenado besides just numbers on a paper. but I've always had plenty of respect for Kurkjian.

He still isn't No. 2. Scott Rolen is one of the greatest defensive 3B of all time, and I put him behind Brooks and Schmidt.

with that lineup offensively for Philadelphia, he'll probably be getting more plate appearances each season than he was for the Nats, at least for the next few years.

When Arenado gets to 10 Gold Gloves we'll talk. He is eighth all-time in fielding percentage which is impressive.

Look, dude is gonna go down as one of the best fielding 3B of all-time. But he's 27 and hasn't even played half of his whole body of work. Let's slow down on ranking him second all-time when dude has another 10 years left in his career.

But yea, I'm dumb and don't know what I'm talking about. Fuck off Brohan.

It's amazing how butt hurt you two are over the fact I don't think Arenado should be considered the second best third baseman of all time at 27 years old. It's like you didn't even read the rest of the post.

I don't know what I bother interacting with two brick walls when it's the shame shtick from both every single time.

I have only skimmed the convo, but I think most people are not arguing Arenado is not a solid defensive 3B, its just premature to list his as 2nd greatest defensive 3B of all time when his career has so many more years to go

I don't care about any of this shit--I haven't said anything about any rankings of any players other than to point out that you and junior mistook someone's list of top defensive players as an overall list. this is a recurring problem of yours roose-you argue against what you think or wish people said rather than what they actually have said. it's like a strawman argument, but in that case, the technique is meant to gain the advantage in an argument--when you do it it's seemingly pure oversight, as it certainly isn't helping the argument.

as far as the topic at hand, how the hell is anyone supposed to compare current defensive players against a guy who quit before almost any of us was born? from an era that had no metrics whatsoever to adequately measure defense? schmidt quit when we were all still in underoos, so I don't have anything to add on that argument either.

I'm sure they were all good or great. arenado is great. tim kurkjian made a list. you have your own list.

fielding percentage is the worst possible way to measure defensive acuity.

I would say this is wrong - PECOTA has Phillies at 753 runs scored projected for 2019

In an off year last year Nats scored 771. 819 in 2107 - all else equal Harper is projected for less PA's
