I'm kind of stunned by the negative response that A Quiet Place has gotten in here to a certain degree. I finally watched it, and I don't think it's like top 10 of the year or anything but it was well worth the viewing. I liked it. All the setups and payoffs were done right (if a couple of them were somewhat obvious, yes). I'm also glad there'd been so much time since I first saw the trailer, I barely remembered anything from it, just really the premise.

I think in the context of it being a first time director, mostly known for his comedic acting, it was excellent. Looking forward to future work from JK.

Finally got around to straight outta compton haha. It's been out for a long time now. But I'm not always in the mood for this type of movie. I have been listening to a lot of hardcore rap recently (no limit records) and figured I give this a try.

I really liked this movie man. this shows how crazy the beef in the rap industry could get. Could you imagine working for a dude like Suge Knight? That's one crazy MFer.

I watched both of these yesterday (first time for each) and really enjoyed them both. Definitely the 2 best in the series now that I've seen them all, and I'm really pumped to go catch Fallout in the theater now.

I think I liked Rogue Nation the best, but Ghost Protocol was great too. I'd actually probably rank the 5 in reverse order at this point. 4 and 5 absolutely stood out above the rest for me. 3 would be next purely for PSH, so rare that he did a straight up scenery chewing, ham-it-up type of role (in the best possible way.) 2 had some really cool set pieces and it was pretty fun. 1 I haven't watched in a loooong time but I feel like it's pretty dated at this point and doesn't have the breakneck pace of the others. Of course the wire-hanging heist scene is still legendary though.

So, last night I went on a John Woo binge. It was supposed to be a MI binge (skipping 3, because fuck that movie) but I ended up after MI:2 just watching Broken Arrow and Face/Off.

    I'm so hyped for tonight.

I'm also glad I don't have to kill myself when it is over, because now I have a new Neil Breen film to look forward to.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the trailer for Twisted Pair...

    Enjoy.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

    Warrior - 9.25/10 (Amazon Prime)

I missed this when it came out in 2011. I thought it was very good. Great backstory setup. One gripe is that the final fight was telegraphed by about 20 minutes into the movie. However, it still turned out to be pretty good even though I saw it coming from a long way off. Maybe one other gripe is that Tom Hardy's character was almost too animal-like with too singular of emotion (pure rage all the time). He never really came to terms with what he was dealing with and that was kind of disappointing. However, the rage he felt from his circumstances clearly came across and it justified a lot of his behavior. It was an engaging story and I really enjoyed it.

I'm a dumb fuck. The syndicate isn't mentioned at the end of MI:3. Not a big deal. Kind of enjoyed MI:3 after a few years of not watching it. Now come Monday I'll watch MI:4 then MI:5 on Wednesday. Will probably watch MI:6 within the next couple of weeks.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Jeff Goldblum to be Christopher Walken anymore?

that is, I can smile along with him being weird for the sake of itself, and enjoy it for what it is, but I do miss seeing him actually doing something challenging. Something non-ironic.

After sleeping on it, I’ve decided this is the greatest film ever made by someone other than Neil Breen.

    M:I - Fallout

Lived up to the hype. Such a fun, entertaining movie and every single action sequence/set piece was perfectly executed. For as lengthy of a movie as it was, I never looked at my phone once and halfway through, I was already geared up for another installment. It’s honestly hard to rank the main action sequences - the sky dive scene might be last only because the other big ones were so good. That bathroom scene was just outstandingly choreographed, the Paris chase was an adrenaline rush, and the Helicopter duel was the textbook definition of causing sweaty palms. Terrific. Makes a strong case for my favorite action film since The Raid.

It’s also worth seeing on the IMAX for the reason that Clay mentioned - the first look at First Man. Loved the sequence they chose and how it was directed, which I won’t say what it was, but it was a very refreshing departure from how this type of scene is usually executed in space travel movies.

My opinions mirror yours. Wow. What a fun movie. My only gripe was that it was hard at times to follow who was with who doing what - but that was my own misunderstandings.

There's talk of Christopher McQuarrie re-teaming with Henry Cavill for Man of Steel 2. I'm all in if that's the case

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Watched Kong 'Skull Island' and Logan yesterday.

    Kong - 6/10
It was cool to see a return to the more human version of Kong but overall the movie was just a mess. The best part is that it is a set up for a larger universe of bringing in Godzilla, Gydra, Mothra, Rodan, and more. I grew up a huge fan of Godzilla and would love to see monster movies make a big return.

    Logan - 8.5-9/10
This was easily the best of the Wolverine installments. I particularly loved how gory it was. In the comics Logan isn't nice and when he kills it is brutal. In fact, the movie could be way more gory and not be offensive. The human aspect of him trying not to be what they made him was properly done and made me feel bad for him even while he's being a total dick to everyone. My favorite moment ****SPOILER WARNING**** is when the girl tips the cross over at his grave to make an 'X'. It was a very special touch at the end of a quality "super hero" movie.

Going to watch MI:Ghost Protocol tonight.

Went to the Alamo Drafthouse for the first time. The experience was cool, but the movie, Hotel Transylvania 3, was just awful.....not that I was expecting much from it anyway.

    The One I Love A-

Third time seeing this one, watched it with the girlfriend as it was her first time. Still hold up really well - I enjoyed even though I knew all the twists and turns.

watched a couple over the weekend:

you were never really here - what a fucked up movie. still not entirely sure how I felt about it. don't really think I'd have much interest in re-watching it. obviously the performances are outstanding. just so depressing.

thoroughbreds - another fucked up movie but I thought it was decent. maybe like a 6/10.

I listened to a podcast with the director and he mentioned that it was originally written as a play, which makes tons of sense
