Yeah, could be a mess, but I'm holding out hope as the trailer looks decent.

Would have preferred Terry Gilliam, but it's Disney so......

Triple Frontier - I don’t know, it was fine. A good movie to have on while you’re doing something else because nothing really happens worth while.

well, yeah it does kind of seem like the type of thing you're simply either going to be able to buy into as a general idea from the top or not.

I mean the matter-of-fact way you describe in your first sentence, of course it sounds utterly absurd like that

being the sort of overall diehard fan that I am of all things Sherlock Holmes, now that this Holmes & Watson thing is getting to where it's streaming, I'm not sure if I still want to attempt to subject myself to it or not.

hell this thing seemed to be reaching like top 10 worst of the damn decade levels already...

    Quiz Show

This was pretty damn great. A little long, but top to bottom it really captivated me. Performances were strong across the board and the game of cat and mouse was so much fun to watch play out.

My favorite so far from the list I posted a few pages back.

    Captain Marvel - a weak 7/10

While I enjoyed seeing the storyline progress and the tie-ins to the other Marvel movies, I thought the movie was a little too safe. The writing wasn't very strong and the villains seemed a little thin. Not bad, but not great either.

Has Pixar even done a musical yet? Honestly, at this point, I’m surprised they haven’t.

Of course, I could be wrong while simultaneously too lazy to google.

I am pretty much in the same camp as you on musicals for exactly the same reasons, though as a kid, I was definitely a big fan of three of the Big 4 from the Disney Renaissance era (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. The Little Mermaid being the 4th that I was not as big on). I think the animation element played a big role in me being a lot warmer to those movies, in addition to the songs being genuinely memorable.

It’s definitely a lot harder for me to get into a live action musical - the exceptions in this instance are usually self-aware of the absurdity, like The Blues Brothers.

I am also glad you really liked Quiz Show. I revisited it for the first time in over a decade a few months ago and it held up extraordinarily well, to the point that I think I appreciated far more on my second viewing than my first.

    Ahhh yes, good call.

And while I did like Coco fine enough, it would rank closer to the bottom for me in the Pixar canon.

The Old Man and the Gun - A decent Robert Redford crime drama. Good performances from Redford, Sissy Spacek, Danny Glover and Tom Waits.

Between Worlds - Bonkers Nic Cage supernatural thriller.

Ben is Back - Hey, Julia Roberts can act. A bittersweet Christmas drama about addiction.

The Hole in the Ground - Creepy horror flick.

If you have any interest in watching TRIPLE FRONTIER, if you haven't seen the trailer yet I highly recommend you do NOT. I've not seen the movie either, but it sure does seem to show you everything that happens up until maybe about the last 15 minutes of it.

well like I just meant that in a very general way, not trying to be that literal. I mean if I'm wrong, awesome, I just felt coming away from the first time I saw that trailer that they showed what seemed to be A LOT of different major beats from the story. So I just said that more as like a general expression, like "it feels like it shows you everything but the very end". But again, if there's really that much more to it, fantastic.

okay and for the love of god... I've only just started hearing this, though I guess it's been out there for a couple days now. There's legitimate discussion of doing a BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY sequel
I guess Freddy Mercury would still be in at least part of it, cause an idea is starting it like right after Live Aid. But I mean, if Brian May seriously wanted even the first Queen movie to have Freddy die in the middle and then the band soldiers on (though exactly nobody would give a flying fuck about that) surely he'd try hard as he could to make a second one start to get into that.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Bohemian Rhapsody -- Finally got around to seeing it. Enjoyable movie, great performances by Rami and Gwilym. The directorial choices were questionable at best, mostly useless, and fucking stupid at worst.

Going anachronistic regarding the creation period of when songs were released and performed seemed pointless. I see nothing that would have hurt the story if they had used a song correct to the period for their first American tour and set the creation of We Will Rock you during the correct period. Dramatizing and messing with the timeline and facts of the personal issues is standard Hollywood and not a problem, but messing with music timeline just served no purpose.

I don't expect complete historical accuracy in a biopic...it hasn't happened yet, why should this movie be or have been held to a higher standard? Loved hearing the music, enjoyed the recreation of the Live Aid performance, and again the acting was quite good even when the plot and script were questionable. To the Live Aid performance, I remember watching Live Aid all day when I was a kid, absolutely glued to MTV watching everything. I had just started playing guitar earlier in the year and music had taken a even greater place of significance in my life as result (and it was already huge). Queen's Greatest Hits was one of the first cassettes that I owned, along with Revolver. They were an important part of my musical fanship/obsession and remain one of my favorite bands. I regret that they chose not to tour the US on that last tour in '86, I would have loved to have seen them.
