Random dmb thoughts that don't need their own thread

Ok I'll take a stab at this, 10 random thoughts:

1. Biggest "surprise" I ever saw was MSG 2003 dave and friends when they busted out sweet up and down. Took like 15 seconds to realize what was going on, my brain couldn't comprehend a DMB song being played full band D&F, let alone a rarity like SUAD. Wish that damn song would come back.
2. Speaking of surprises, I wish I was at that first show in 2008 where they did everyday(fake) into halloween. I can only imagine the mindfuck felt by every fan in attendance.
3. Of all the complaining done around here with current sets (and I am one of those complainers), I am extremely grateful for the return of minarets to regular rotation. That said, I'm always somewhat disappointed that despite the scatting and the rapping, they haven't brought back the "tomorrow never knows" intro.
4. Dave has seemed to have a done a good job with his receding hairline. I thought he was doomed for a shiny dome as far back as 2001. I wish I knew his trick.
5. Interesting thought regarding When the World Ends opened on 12/21/12 (the day of the "Mayan apocalypse.") That was a fantastic/surreal moment; I can't think of any time in the history of DMB that everyone in a venue wanted one particular song played at at the same and that song wasn't Halloween, Two Step or Last Stop....and it was played! (and the tease was killer as well)
6. Pantala Naga Pampa really has to be played without going into Rapunzel. Dissenters will say that Rapunzel wouldn't be the same without it, that PNP and Rapunzel are tied together like Khaleesi and her dragons. Except the band DID do it once, and only once, going into Grey Street a few years back. It was a trainwreck, but it has crossed their minds before. They should do it again (full band that is, I recognize that PNP has been played after Jimi Thing with D&T)
7. Hello Again needs to finally be played again...and it needs to cut off at the end of the drum solo and go into Halloween.
8. Why has "Gas Into Fire" not become its own song? That 60 seconds of haunting music is better than ANYTHING in the last decade. I'm not joking. (not saying anything from the last decade isn't good, but that little song had more inside it than the bunny ranch on valentines day)
9. I like the pit setup, it allows fans to potentially get up close without having to get extraordinary lucky or be a warehouse member since 1998. However, for the life of me, I don't understand how people manage the urination issue. I recognize there is a "pit culture" of people saving your spot, but it really is a pilgrimage to get back to where you were, and the people that actually get the rail hours in advance? I sometimes imagine you have to be a boxer who has dehydrated yourself for the big fight (the "fight" being a DMB concert) in order to survive not urinating all night. (add beer to the mix and its game over)
10. Finally, before DMB retires, if they don't bring back Peter Griesar for at least one concert it will be a great cosmic disservice. The band needs to come full circle and convince this guy to get on the keys one more time. Sure, I'd prefer him guesting on People People and I could die a happy man, but I'll even take a classic so much to say. Make it happen guys.

Looks like Dave delivered Halloween a few times before the year was up. There was one aborted Dreaming Tree. No Last Stop. Things never change.

In fairness, Last Stop isn't a song you can just bust out. Halloween is. Dreaming Tree was aborted at Gorge because Dave forgot the words and it fell apart. Then in 2003, they busted out Dreaming Tree and Last Stop a bunch after both hadn't been played in years. That was after they had a chance to rehearse them between tours. Halloween didn't show back up until 2005.

splack - regarding not having to pee while in the Pit -- gotta drink juuuuuuuuust enough water during the day to not get overly dehydrated and you're good. Plus, songs like If Only, BnBB, and LiTHOG (which they don't really play anymore, what the hell) are great opportunities for maintenance whizzes. And Jimi Thing too, I guess.

ya, controlled dehydration works well. i'll get a bottle of water when i first get in and nurse it the entire night. a handful of starbursts help too.

to add on to that, you have to have some strategy when it comes to using the bathroom. you go when you can, not when you need to. when there were opening acts, i always left during their last song and i was back in the pit while most people were just leaving. its a bit trickier now with the 2 sets, but for the most part we know when the first set is going to end. its typically 8 songs long, occasionally one or two more. as soon as the song ends and dave says "we'll be back out soon" you high tail it for the restroom. no lollygagging and talking after the set ends or else you'll be way back in line.

Once Hello Again got cooking in 2004 it was such a beast. The part after Carter's drum solo, LeRoi's sax line, Dave's wailing, and Butch's extra little touches, gives me chills every time. (* Listened to the Stand Up Bonus CD version this morning).

DMB shows are never really that loud. Like they're perfectly volumed. I don't need ear plugs but it's not so quiet I can't hear. Very few other bands are on that level.

But what if you want to drink booze? In the olden days I'd drink to my heart's content and come back to my seat but now if you are in the pit you are gonna miss half the concert if you have to take a piss 3-4 times because the adventure back to your spot is like navigating through an asteroid belt with a millenium falcon that has run out of gas, and lets be real, the millenium falcon is too big anyway to navigate an asteroid belt

I've drank a lot at Bristow the past few years... I just sweat it all out, it's usually hot enough

Always make sure I go once right before the band is going to take the stage.

why cant you just not drink booze? either make the commitment to being up front or don't bitch about having to go in the middle of a song. beer is going to be there the other 364 days of the year. you really can't go this one night without it?

So, my girlfriend has been making me watch the bachelorette with her this year (that sentence alone should invalidate any argument I'm about to make, but I shall proceed). In the last episode all the dudes sumo wrestle each other. There's one dude, however, that has a tantrum because he's all about "peace and love" and tells the girl he doesn't want to be on the show anymore because he has more to offer than engaging in fake sumo-wrestling matches for fun. His argument on its face sounds reasonable, he's there for love, not to necessarily engage in silly competitions for the girl's amusement. Yet, taking a step back, he just sounds like an elitist judging others for having a good time, and no one on the show gives a shit that he leaves.

Moral of the story is, the dude should have just chilled out and done some dumbass sumo wrestling. You sir, should chill out and not judge those who take immeasurable enjoyment in participating in alcoholic beverages so we have the liquid courage to scream with Dave on bartender when he yells "I'm on bendeeeeeed knees father please!" or try to hit the falsetto with him on say goodbye (speaking of which, where the fuck is that song)?
