Re: Live Trax Vol. 45 - 6/29/13 - Camden, NJ

Maybe I’m over analyzing but some of the better tunes I’m finding not that enjoyable on this particular release.

I find Joyride, JTR, help myself, and Halloween all overpowering. Would love to actually hear Dave’s guitar instead of Tim cranked up to 100 on these tunes

Joyride- I mean shit, the song is basically the same as in 2004 it’s just the hard rock version.

JTR- the song just doesn’t breathe in this version, and can’t really hear Dave’s guitar well after the intro. This year’s JTRs are much better.

Help myself- carters fills are great. Even Boyd’s part is good. Once again it’s too heavy with the electric guitar.

Halloween- this is the worst of all IMO. The song in 3.0 is the definition of just a bunch of noise. I like to hear Dave’s guitar loud on this tune and all you hear is Tim on full blast. The beauty of Halloween was that Dave could make such an aggressive song on an acoustic guitar. The song in 3.0 is just overdone.

I think we get the common theme here.

    The highlight include....

DIDO- great drumming. Good version of the song.

WWYS- Great jam on this one. Jeff always reminds me of Roi on this one when he has a sax solo.

    GTBT- great zeppelin cover

Mercy- typically don’t like this tune, but like the jam. The jam has a nice build.

SMTS- Dave’s guitar is shap on this one. Nice version of a standard song.

Typical- always going to be a highlight for me no matter what era of the band. I think the song is slightly better this year tho because of the keys.

Pig- always a highlight. Daves voice was good. Only bad part was Boyd in the middle sections. He did decent on the intro tho.

    Two step- pretty smoking version

    Other comments:
Skipped around on this crush until the middle of Boyd’s solo, and what I heard was pretty bad. The ending was a usual monster tho.
Didn’t listen to hunger or ants. Looking forward to giving this another listen tomorrow.

I forgot how great the Good Times Bad Times cover was from this tour. I wouldn’t mind it to pop up again here and there

The fan fight between Good Times Bad Times and #41 in the taper version of the show is hilarious. Just now listening to it.

Went to download this using the Zip this morning, download failed in the middle again and had to email the WH.

I've never had a download that worked the first time.

Trying to get the downloads I paid for for Live Trax 45. Here’s how well it goes

This morning, I buy LT45 with some other stuff. I try to download using the ZIP function, and it fails. The download status changes to “complete” so I can’t download them.

10:14am - email WH to let them know the downloads have failed and now say “completed” so I can’t download them
11:09am - WH emails me, says try a different browser
11:13am - email WH back, tell them I looked in Chrome (attach screenshot), it says downloads are complete
12:42pm - WH emails me, says “we’re seeing the downloads as complete, search your recent download files”
12:56pm - I email them back telling them no, the download failed, I don’t have them
1:42pm - WH emails me back saying they reset the downloads (I logged in to check, they still say complete)
2:10pm - I email WH to tell them the downloads still say complete
3:49pm - WH emails me back, says they reset them again (I logged in to check, they still say complete)
4:25pm - I email WH back yet again to tell them the downloads still say complete, and I can’t download them

So, it looks like I won't be getting the LT45 downloads I paid for

Good version of Mercy on this. Not really a big fan of the song in general either.

Personally I think this is a good mix. A few things could be tweaked I guess but that could just be how it was captured. Jon Altschiller actually mixed this (forgive me if it's been said already) instead of Rob Evans which is crazy. He hasn't done anything for DMB in a while and Rob has been doing practically every live release. curious to know why Jon mixed this one. If you didn't know, Jon mixes most of Bruce Springsteen's Nugs.net live releases. fun fact for today. The drums sound really good and it all together doesn't seem loud. this sounds close to what Rob does actually. and it's a show I attended so that's always good!

he does sound great. nice to hear him a little louder for a change. maybe its Camden, just captures the drums better. if you remember, LT from 01 in Camden has good drums too. at least in my opinion!

Jon Altschiller also did LT28 and Europe 2009, and was the engineer on The Central Park Concert.

Thinking of downloading this one but love the tape we have. Would you say it’s a bit more Tim heavy in the mix than LT46?

LT. 45 is one of the best releases they have had in a while...and the mix is near perfect.

Finally listening to this. Digging it so far. Cool mix overall Tim certainly more present than LT46 but Dave's guitar is nice in the mix as well.

Towards the end of Stefan's extended noodling before Crush, does anyone else hear a riff that sound like Heathcliff's Haiku Warriors? I'm sure it is just a coincidence but the slow section just before they get into the song sounds like that chord progression to me.

With all the amazing highlights on this one, not much has been said about those first 3 minutes of Crush... man o man do I love this! This reminds me so much of the early bass solos Stefan used to do before Typical Situation back in the old days. Honestly, there's so much great music on this, but I just keep coming back to this Crush intro.

So you know, this prolonged solo was because dave was having issues with his guitar being mic'd. Saw it myself, was in the front row . and on copperpot's video like 10 times

I had to dig this thread up to say: I think the noodling to open the show is so beautiful and amazing, just such a let down that it ends up leading into ....dream girl. Lol. I sometimes put the song on just to hear the opening

You should call the warehouse instead and stay on the phone with them until your download works. This has worked for me in the past and is a far less painful experience than emailing back and forth.

Whenever I had issues downloading the bigger 24/96 FLAC files, calling Musictoday is infinitely quicker, AND they were always so courteous and helpful over the phone with me, no matter how many times it took for them to reset the download to finally get those larger files.

If you like this, here's another one for you. Listen to Dave's intro to Satellite on LT31, another Camden show. I go back to that show just to listen to Dave's noodling. Not sure if it ever developed into a song, but i love it.

That and off key intro were fairly common for the time. Off key was more 03-04

    Relistening to this amazing release.

It's damn near perfect for a DMB 3.0 show.

2013 had strong sets, but this one was particularly unique. A lot of rarities and unexpected song placements/runs. Performances are top notch, and the mix is great.

My question is for the Live Trax series, why don't we get MORE of these types of shows. I mean every tour has 5 to 7 really strong shows, and we sure we get some of them, but it seems more than than half the time we're getting head scratchers.

For instance, I don't understand getting a random 2005 sho, It's not something on paper that looks like WOW this is going to be great. None of the fans are pining for it. We're being told it is is good though. But I'm skeptical. Similar to LT 59. It was ok. There were still way better shows to pick from in 2014 even!

I mean I typically like all the Trax shows, but there seem to be so many SPECIAL shows left on the table. Assuming the Trax series goes on for another decade plus, are they just saving them for a later time or what is really going on with the choice making behind these?

Like the specialness has a shelf life in my opinion. If we have to wait until 2032 to get ALPINE 2012 on live Trax, I'm not really going to be excited anymore. Put them out when the excitement is there ya know? Like these Hollywood Bowl shows. I don't want to get them in 2027 when there's nothing else going on in the dmb camp, so they put out something we used to want.
