Pretty much everything I've read on the subject past like dumb 5th grade books has said otherwise. I mean, it was thousands of years ago so I'm sure working conditions weren't up to code and punishments were a lot more violent , but nothing I've seen points to the classic images of them being whipped as they haul stones as accurate.
