Maybe you are not familiar with this thread, but there has been plenty of real life advice in it.

Edit: Also not really asking for financial advice.

my wife and I are on my benefits, but we might be going our separate ways with insurance very soon. I pay $120 a month just because she is offered insurance through her job but opts out of it.

Makes sense since you don’t have kids yet. The premiums would be for “family” if together, they take into account rugrats.

I'm independently rich from selling Xanga juice so I do not have a need for life insurance.

Bruh, you don't want to be at a public restroom when that fire hits.

Where are you getting your hot chicken from? I had Hattie B's when I was there last.

I think something else to consider is how often you go to the doctors or use your health insurance. You should look at the deductibles and out of pocket maximums for both plans and compare. It may be more advantageous to be on the same plan, even if its a more expensive premium. You could potentially hit your out of pocket maximum quicker. This was the case with a planned surgery I had and subsequent physical therapy sessions a few years ago.

You should also look at what is covered under each plan too. Some plans may cover an annual checkup fully, others may not, etc.

It really depends on how often you go to doctors. If you go once a year for a physical or something, then it probably makes sense to go with separate plans and cheaper premiums. If you're planning for anything serious (having a kid, surgery, etc), you should look into the details.

We just found out we are going to be working from home until September 2022. After that we might have to go in 1 or 2 days a week.

The reason for that date is they are building a new Service and logistics center for our hospital. Several IS teams will be there including groups like BioMed and Supply Chain. It opens then and it's actually only 10 minutes from my house. Looking forward to the commute. No more trains and walking over homeless in center city Phila.

Not sure we're ever going back. Saw my manager a week ago and asked about it, he said not for a long time or maybe ever. I'm even hearing they're turning our entire office into hotel spaces, aka no set desks, so we're being encouraged to get our shit from our cubicles. I would honestly like to go in at least once, maybe twice a week.

I was under the impression that we’d never have to go back either but a few weeks ago my boss dropped on us that my team needs to go in at least once a week, which sucks ass because there’s no point, but I’m not going to make an issue out of one day.

What makes even less sense is the fact that they’re allowing me to go work at a satellite office where there are literally zero people that I support.

    Oh well, whatever.

To me the dumbest thing for us is that it's blatantly obvious that a big part of why they want people back in the office and back in the office most of the time is because we're paying rent on a building downtown, which is expensive as fuck. You'd think that, as a non-profit, they would have viewed COVID as a chance to cut a major cost. But I guess not. I get that we're in a lease for a few more years, but still.

Our buildings are open, and we are at the early stages of being encouraged to work from the office a couple of days a week, but nothing mandatory yet. I think it will be 100% work from home through the summer then a hybrid model going forward.

This is all I heard for the past 14 months. In fact, I was told by multiple people in the management/executive level that nobody will be required to return to the office once all is said and done, then BOOM. Hey, we want you all to start coming back in once a week so we have “a presence”. Oh, and AJ, you can work from a location that literally nobody is, sooooo……

Just no standard, clear and consistent message. I’m being told to go back one day a week, others won’t ever step foot in the office again.
