if you are a family and you make less than 86,000 are you really middle class?

and on the other end, if your household income is >200k, are you really middle class?

Depends on how many kids, I guess. That's about where my household is, but we're DINKs, so I'd say we live a fairly comfortable lower middle class life. 86k with a few kids, you're maybe not living a very middle class life.

On the other end, if you're at like 250k with three kids in college that you're paying for, probably still middle class. DINKs at 250, definitely into the upper class.

Well obviously I would prefer all of them to but it’s difficult to say without knowing why those 8 million families are impacted and the vast majority aren’t.

That's the thing. Everyone tries to simplify this shit and it's not simple. There is nuance to this. Surprise right? If my wife and I had the jobs we have and didn't have a kid, I'd feel more than comfortable.
