DMBLive - 11.30.98 - First Union Center - Philadelphia, PA

https://warehouse.shop.musictoday.co...view_in=Mobile

This DMBLive from Philadelphia’s First Union Center in 1998 comes from one of the most popular tours in DMB history. The show features all founding members and Tim Reynolds, plus Butch Taylor on keys for all but 5 songs. And Bela Fleck sits in on the killer set opener Last Stop, as well as other songs throughout the show, including a nearly 15 minute Two Step with Bela and Tim masterfully trading licks. Stay (Wasting Time) features LeRoi’s powerful horn -- busting through near the end of this tune to take it home. I’ll Back You Up and a fantastic Warehouse seal the deal in the encore.

This particular Fall 1998 performance only exists as a two track board mix, but the musical prowess and energy of the evening still shine through. A great sound has been captured. Even 17 years after the last notes of the tour, it’s still one for the books.

Anyone know why it only exists in that two board mix? Just curious. This I might grab for myself.

Certainly cant complain about a '98 release especially from the DMBLive series...

This is fantastic news! What a great surprise! I will definitely be getting this one. It's been far too long a wait for a 98 release, and what a great pick. I'm curious to hear what the mix is like.

Only reasons would be the multitracks were not archived properly or the drive(s) they were on were damaged at some point and the show is missing too much to bother doing a full mix from multitracks.

If the board mix was good (I can't listen until later, so others will likely confirm before) then it's not a bad thing as the DMBLive series seem to go pretty much unmastered, here is an extremely rare post-96 show with the vast majority of dynamics intact.

The official previews sound a bit hollow, distant, I don't know how to describe it exactly.

Like the Rooftop on the Warehouse disc? That one sounded almost likes taper pull from the back of the amphitheater.

EDIT: Also, can anyone tell me how large the zip file is?

A 2-track show from the multi-track era? I always assumed DMBLive would be pre-96 stuff mostly.

If we were told that 11.30.98 was going to be released around the time when the first batch of DMBLive shows were to be be released, people would have lost their minds dreaming what else could be next.

Yeah, I mean it's awesome that they released this show via DMBLive... but I don't think it's anything anyone would've expected given that it's a 98 full band show. You would just expect that to get the full multi-track treatment.

I have never heard the show, but on paper alone I would rank:

    LT 1 >> DMBLive >> LiC

The first LT is tough to beat, in terms of Fall '98. That Seek Up opener > Linus & Lucy > Heartbeat > Rapunzel is just perfection. The rest of the set is a monster throughout, ending on one of the best Last Stops of all time.

I'm curious to hear this DMBLive soon. I'm happy the series has reached beyond 1996 again, but it's a shame it's only limited to shows with 2-track recordings.

Not too into the Live series, but I might have to take a bight out of this one.

Show looks great, can't wait to grab it. More Winter 98 is never a bad thing. Literally the only complaint I have with this release is that it's not 12.7.98 (the night 1 to LT1's night 2 in Worcester), which outside of shows I've attended is one of the top shows I wish for release. The Two Step, LIOG combo to close the set is some of the best DMB out there. I've never heard this show but it's Winter 98 with Tim/Butch/Bela so you can't go wrong. I feel like Tim and Butch complemented each other and real well and neither of them dominated because of the other's presence, and IMO this is the best incarnation of DMB.

Downloaded FLAC 16. Sound is good with headphones. Recording sounds like a '98 recording, slightly distant, but more dynamic than anything. Better than a '98 taper pull (love them). Tim, Butch, and Bela make the sound dynamics interesting, but amazing. Would recommend.

Maybe it's 2 track because the cost of DMBLive? Not worth it in their eyes, profit-wise, to fully mix it from multitrack and they're just telling us otherwise?

    Will be grabbing this tonight.
