North America is lagging behind Europe and Asia in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, because of limited testing and or a more limited spread to-date. Looks like it’s going to get much worse before it gets better. This is what’s happening in the music tour scene in other parts of the world:

    It’ll be interesting to follow the story of the confirmed case of the NZ Tool concert goer. If anyone else in the pit near them tests positive, that could be concerning. While I don’t want my spring and summer music plans disrupted, it’s about protecting the vulnerable among us. There will be future shows and I’ll set my self interests aside if that’s what needs to happen.🤷🏻*♀️

    This bullshit will be gone by May. The media will eventually stop taking about it. See you summer tour.

    A tech conference that brings $350M annually to the host city just got cancelled, and we're still acting like this is a media issue

    In the south... where it's 'warm'.

    Not a great sign of things to come.

    The 2020 Experimental Biology Conference, attended by MDs, PhDs, MD and PhDs in the biological sciences, and attended by Nobel laureates in Chemistry and Anatomy/Physiology, was just cancelled. This is a serious issue for those in their 60s and later and the immunocompromised population.

    When was the conference? There is no need to cancel a tour that goes from June to September in March as a precaution. This thing could be ending or over in 10-12 weeks.

    I'm not saying that the tour wont be impacted, it very well could. Im saying they wont make a decision for a while as there is no need to do so

    Except it’s meaningless. You can’t use broad-brush statements without qualifying what anything within the statement means. What do you consider “worse”? What is “better”?

    It’s like saying “something doesn’t add up” or “we’re in for a wild ride.” It’s the appearance of saying something without actually saying anything.

    Where? That date range makes sense for a cancellation.

    To clarify.

    “Worse” was intended to reference:
    -more people diagnosed with this terrible disease;
    -more deaths;
    - and more disruption to daily living for us all.

    Better is obviously the opposite to the above.

    Well the virus isn’t just going to disappear, and all of those diagnosed aren’t instantly going to heal, so of course it’s going to get worse. I don’t think anyone is denying that.

    Here’s where the “what’s the big deal?” and the “this will get much worse before it gets better” crowds bump heads. Currently in the US we have about 400 confirmed cases and 17 deaths. What final totals would be considered bad? Considering the flu killed 60k+ in 2018 in the US, is there a magic number?

    I’m a numbers guy. So when I look at global and national stats for this, I only have numbers from other, somewhat similar diseases to use as a base for good
    Or bad.

    To clarify: obviously any disease is bad. I should have used bad vs. not too bad instead of “good.” My apologies.

    “ The 1918 influenza pandemic was the most severe pandemic in recent history. It was caused by an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. Although there is not universal consensus regarding where the virus originated, it spread worldwide during 1918-1919. In the United States, it was first identified in military personnel in spring 1918. It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States.”

    I was someone laughing at this a few days ago, but I’m coming around to being very concerned. We’re going to have a substantial number of people die, and the strain on the economy and the healthcare system is going to be very real.

    Would be nice if 100 years later we were better prepared, more resourceful, more intelligent, and have learned from past experiences. Not so sure thats the case unfortunately.

    You’re going to have your run-of-the-mill shitheads, but I would say, as a society, we are all of those things. More accessible, better healthcare. Better hygiene standards with more accessible, better hygiene/sanitation products. Better dissemination of info (depending on where you get you lot info from, so kind of debatable). You can have a virtual doctor visit via FaceTime instead of having to wait 18 hours while Mary Breckenridge rode through the Appalachian Mountains on horseback to get to your cabin to provide care.

    Starting to get a little bit concerned, 70 now have it in Westchester County and that number seems to be about doubling every day.

    Not worried for myself, but for others with underlying health issues like my mom with an autoimmune disease.

    Sell them now if you're going to. If shit hits the fan you wont be able to sell them and if they dont cancel the show for some reason you'll be out your money.

    I think that’s a worst case scenario situation. Not even China has broken 100,000 yet and they’ve had it since December.

    Yes in 2 months 96 million will be infected. And then, using a 2.5 reproduction every week, the rest of the United States will be infected only 10 days after that.
