I like the way Tim plays on Granny now, I think it adds to the song.

Will anyone back me up and say that The Gorge Granny is better than Central Park? I really love this version. The taper audio is a little better to really hear what dave is saying near the end, but this will do

Love me some Granny. It is not in my top 10 (maybe top 20) but it is likely in my top 5 of songs I could hear at every single show. Just one of those happy songs that always makes me smile. Opening chords has me grinning ear to ear. Love it.

Gorge Granny was great. This was my favorite line:

I believe it's love that starts in here
But all we have to do is dig down deeper

Central Park is still untouchable though.

I'll have to relisten to Gorge, but I cannot imagine it coming close to Central Park. Granny is probably top 5 for me right now.

For live releases, my vote goes to Alpine (August 04). I love the lyrics of that version. I just think they nail it.

Biased because I was there, but I think this is one of their better recent versions.

Listening through a bunch of live release versions now. Gorge 9/8/02 is spot on. LT8 is tops for me. CP excellent as noted.

Edit: the sound quality of those Gorge recordings is so good.

Funny about that...the first time I heard Granny, and the version I considered more or less the “official” version of the song was the Listener Supported version.

In the second chorus of the LS version, Dave sings “I believe it’s love that’s hiding here, inside you and inside me...” While that’s not the usual lyrics (he usually just repeats ‘In the shadows, in the darkness’) I always just sang it the LS way.

Fast forward to Blossom 2013–the first time I hear Granny live—Dave actually sings “inside you and inside me” during the chorus. It sounds cheesy, but in that moment I felt like he knew I was in the crowd and sang that just for me.

I still have a soft spot for the really early "well there we go" versions, that innocent tone Dave takes with it is a nice alternative to the great ones already listed here.
