Re: The Sopranos

Tony/Carmela's fight in the pool house is fucking bananas... those two were top notch during that scene.

I waited on Tony Soprano once. Back in 2000-ish. He was a nice dude.

The more times I watch Made in America, the more I like it.

I think Chase telegraphed it pretty blatantly... Tony got whacked.

Now, what I can't put my finger on, is who ordered it. I'm starting to think it was his own people. They didn't like the way he handled Tony B, which is ultimately what led to the war and got everyone killed. They make remarks on Tony not going to see Syl in the hospital ("Yesterday it was his gout.")

Paulie comes in with a box of scissors toward the end. Butchie was based out of a barber shop. Paulie adored Tony, but he also felt cast aside for Chrissy (he said this to Chrissy explicitly) and he knows Tony suspects him of telling Johnny Sac about the joke; and maybe he suspects that Tony was thinking about whacking him in Florida while they were on the lam. They were on a boat... and then later he has the dream about Pussy where at the end Paulie says "When my time comes, will I stand up?"

In case you can't tell, I just finished my latest rewatch.

posted in the TV thread, but I'll post here too. just finished my first ever watch. what a damn show. just incredible, especially the final few episodes. there is so much to process, especially with that ending. I guess I have two interpretations of it: the POV theory certainly seems incredibly convincing with the "black" being Tony getting whacked and not knowing it. I think that's probably what happened. on the other hand, I really don't think it matters much whether he lives or he dies. he's always been dead - spiritually/emotionally/mentally - just because we didn't see him die physically doesn't really matter.

my favorite moments in the show are mostly centered around the family drama stuff more so than any of the mob stuff - Tony's ongoing relationship with his mother even after she dies, Carmela/Tony's arguments, stuff with AJ (I can't believe how serious some of his stuff got in season 6B), Tony getting shot and his recovery. my favorite episodes are blue comet, whitecaps, irregular around the margins, unidentified black males, soprano home movies, the second coming, and of course made in america.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to say this show is in my top 3 shows of all time yet, but it's definitely up there. the only other ones that compare are the wire, breaking bad, and mad men. Right now I think I'd put it in the 3/4 spot. I already can't wait to go back and re-watch it.

Yup, it is THE standard I (unfairly) compare other TV shows to. I'm due for a rewatch, I think the 4th time in full, maybe? A few years ago I had mono and was out of action for a while, so I banged out a rewatch in like two weeks. Tony's depression hit a little too close to home, as I was posted up on the couch in pajamas all day, unable to work

I just went back and read the pages immediately following the series finale. it's hilarious to see how many people complained and were mad about the ending and wanting real closure. after having processed it, it's a brilliant ending and the way it was shot was perfect.

Finished my complete re-watch. Best show in the history of Television. Really appreciated the deterioration of Tony and Christopher's relationship this time around from Tony's point of view. Cleaver being one of the final straws after setting him up to be the "hair apparent" and how the drugs and his alcoholism took him away from it all. How it was always building to what happened in the car accident.
