Re: Rank the Live Trax albums from best to worst

Live trax 3 is by far the best. I'll post my whole list later.

I enjoy LT2, but I get what you're saying. LT11, on the other hand, is just straight up boring to me. Makes no sense, since LT3 is damn near perfection. I don't know if it's the mix or what, but LT11 puts me to sleep.
I think it's a combination of the mix and a the hangover effect. The Minarets mix on WH5v3 excellent and in your face awesome but it feels so shallow on LT11. Also, the band might have been lagging that night at SPAC with only 1 night off after an incredible 3 night in Hartford.

Edit: What I also can't figure out is why Dave's guitar sounds COMPLETELY different between LT3 and LT11. Anyone have any guess how that happened? I figure it's the mix, but it's just so drastic I have a hard time believing the tone could sound so different because of a sound engineer.

Live Trax have the most inconsistent mixes ever. I swear every time they release a new one, they try to re-engineer how the band should sound. I just want to hand them copies of Listener Supported and Central Park and say "THIS. Don't get clever with the mix, just do THIS."

Re: Rank the Live Trax albums from best to worst

One of these days I will have to actually get into LT 7. It's like the RR95 of Live Trax releases, everyone loves it without question. But for some reason, it just never clicked with me. Maybe it's because I don't care for Bela Fleck all that much, or prefer other releases from that '95/'96 era of the band (LT5, LT4, a few of the better DMBLives). But I need to give it another shot one day. After all, I pre-ordered it like every other release during that time, have owned it ever since, and even still have my pre-order airplane sticker that came with it!

All good it's just surprising. I'm not surprised of where you ranked them just that you would label that many of them meh. Meh to me just means kinda crappy.

Nah, not crappy, it's just not ones I pick to listen to, but I don't mind listening to them; they're not horrible, just not my preference

Been loving 17 lately. Might be my favorite mix of any LT.

Once again, COMPLETELY agree with you The Warehouse disc's also tend to have very good mixes. WH5v2 is absolutely perfect.

They've been doing a good job with mixes lately, with LT 28, scenes from South Africa, the free acoustic/electric tracks, and Belly Belly Nice from LT 29.

I just hope it gets to the point to where the quality mixes are consistent.

I love those mixes too. I do love the variety of sounds that the recordings have though. I'm not saying by any means the bad ones should continue, but some have a mellower sound to them, and some have a full range sound of highs and lows with a lots of depth. It makes it more like a tape in that sense, that you get a vibe from a certain show.

Also, aren't the live trax generally mixed by a handful of different people? It seems like they rotate through editing and mixing.

Don't know how you can put number 28 over number 3. 28 has a ton of duds. 3 has none.

Tough to rank them all. Honestly, after about #10, they all blur together.

    Top 10 would be:
    28
    2
    7
    4
    14
    13
    8
    1
    10
    3

    Don't really care for:

    15
    20
    9

The rest are just kinda lumped in the middle.
