Nah, he (or his internet persona) has made it perfectly clear that money is what he believes in. Anyone that stands in his way or questions that motive is the enemy, and he will say or do whatever it takes to get what he wants. The dude is apparently a sales engineer…because of course he is. You can’t make this shit up

The DC mask mandate is you’re technically supposed to have it on at all times when you’re not eating or drinking. But acting like a 20 second span of not practicing what you preach is more demonstrative of your character than repetitive advocation for practices that save lives is peak muskie.

Just now figuring these things out….

This article from the summer gives a breakdown of trumps grifting with those automatic payments.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/07/u...e=articleShare

The aggressive fund-raising tactics that former President Donald J. Trump deployed late in last year’s presidential campaign have continued to spur an avalanche of refunds into 2021, with Mr. Trump, the Republican Party and their shared accounts returning $12.8 million to donors in the first six months of the year, newly released federal records show.

The refunds were some of the biggest outlays that Mr. Trump made in 2021 as he has built up his $102 million political war chest — and amounted to roughly 20 percent of the $56 million he and his committees raised online so far this year.

Trailing in the polls and facing a cash crunch last September, Mr. Trump’s political operation began opting online donors into automatic recurring contributions by prechecking a box on its digital donation forms to take a withdrawal every week. Donors would have to notice the box and uncheck it to opt out of the donation. A second prechecked box took out another donation, known as a “money bomb.”

The Trump team then obscured that fact by burying the fine print beneath multiple lines of bold and capitalized text, a New York Times investigation earlier this year found.

Pretty crazy. He was such a massive figure in politics when I was just turning 18 and starting to pay attention to it. Crazy how Covid has impacted everyone.

Sen. Manchin has told the White House the child tax credit must include a firm work requirement and family income cap in the $60k range, Axios has learned.

These demands would dramatically weaken one of Biden's signature programs.

Yacht guy thinks a family income of over $60K means they don’t need a child tax credit.

    Moderately extreme.

Sure would be nice if the supposed conservative democrat kept tax cut policies like the Biden CTC for hard working Americans.

It should be noted that if the Biden CTC goes away for parents making over 60K it really just means it reverts back to what it was last year, 2K a kid.

    Higher taxes? Vote manchin.

The article says 60,000 family income. If that means combined income of 60,000 that’s still way off than before.

I understand the article says that. I'm telling you what it means in practice. 60,000 and under for the Biden and democratic tax cut bonus. Above 60k reverts back to the old days when Republicans were president/controlled Congress and had higher tax rates on hard working American families. "Only" a 2k tax cut per kid.

Right but weren’t the income requirements back then like 150,000 combined cap?

Oh so what you’re trying to convey is that Democrats are actually making the child tax credit more difficult to attain than the republicans previously had.

The way you wrote it confused me.

"Fully Vaccinated" is trending because anti-vaxxers are latching on to the fact that Colin Powell was vaccinated and still died. They forget to mention he had cancer and is 84 too.

Whatever it was before 2021 for parents who make over 60k will be what it'll be in the future if Manchin has his way.

I feel like you are missing that. 2021 is the odd year out where Democrats and Biden really wanted to give hard working American families a substantial tax cut. Manchin wants to go back to what it was before 2021 for families who make over 60k.

The payments parents are receiving right now go away at the start of the year. There were only 6 months of payments.

“Before 2018, the full CTC was only available to single parents making less than $75,000 and families making less than $110,000 per year. The TCJA dramatically increased these income thresholds to $200,000 for single parents and $400,000 for married couples filing jointly. Above these limits, the CTC is phased out at the rate of $50 for each additional $1,000 (or portion of $1,000) earned.[8]“

Seems that Before 2021 the income cut off was 400,000 for families. So that’s what it was before 2021, that’s not the same for parents who make over 60k if Manchin had his way.

You keep missing that the people above $60K will revert to the pre-stimulus CTC (received annually during tax season), while those below $60K will continue to receive the monthly enhanced payments.

It doesn’t go to zero for $60k+

    Ok now I understand.

They will just get 2k instead of 3k.

And he’s “not interested” in providing 12 weeks of family leave.

Yes. It will just go back to $2K, with a gradual phase out until $0 for $400K (it may be slightly higher).

The issue with the CTC was that it always heavily favored higher incomes, which is completely ridiculous, IMO. Prior to 2021, about 40% went to households with incomes greater than $100,000 and only 15% went to those making less than $30k.

The expansion not only upped the amount, but changed it so that those without income could still get the credit (the previous minimum was $2500 annually).

I agree with continuing the expansion, both in terms of the amount and low income eligibility. I do agree with modifying the upper caps, but not $60. That’s too low.
