Changing outcomes

You can change the outcome of 5 different plays/games in sports history. What do you pick and why?

1. Gordon Hayward hits the half court shot vs. Duke - This was a perfect set up for a Hollywood ending. You had the following happening. Underdog team playing the greatest college basketball program of the previous 30 years. Butler is playing in Indianapolis, a few miles from campus. Gordon Hayward hit the game winner his senior year of high school to win the State Championship. The school is just up the road from Indy. There's a Cinderella story basketball movie called "Hoosiers". The missed FT came off perfect and he had a clean look. Would have been the greatest shot and ending of all time. Really disappointing.

2. Phil Mickelson hits the fairway on 18 at Winged Foot - Would have been three straight majors and he gets the elusive U.S. Open. There's no way he makes double from the middle of the fairway.

3. Illinois beats UNC in 2005 NCAA Championship Game - My home state team with an unbelievable season that should have ended with a ring.

4. Eli Manning gets sacked or David Tyree drops it on the Helmet Catch - As a football fan, I wanted 19-0 so bad. Just shut the 1972 Dolphins up for good. I was bummed the 1985 Bears couldn't do it. 18-1 with the lone loss coming to Miami. Would trade the Malcolm Butler catch or the Rams Super Bowl for this one.

5. Draymond doesn't punch LeBron in the nuts in 2016 Game 4. Swung the whole series. Fuck Cleveland.

    Re: Changing outcomes

Hayward is a good one!! would’ve been the best shot ever in the sport’s history

    selfishly

    1. Fisher’s .4 shot in game 5 2004
    2. Ginobili’s foul on Nowitzki in game 7 2006
    3. Ray Allen’s three in game 6 2013

boom three extra championships. Duncan has 8 instead of 5

    4. Houston doesn’t choke in game 7 2018. the Durant atrocity only garners 1 cheap title. justice is served.

    5. James and Cleveland don’t choke in the 2009 conference finals. we see Bryant vs James in the finals. *edit i guess they didn’t really choke as Orlando was the far better playoff team but still

1). Ohio State vs Florida, National Championship Game Jan 8, 2007. My brother and I shelled out almost $5 for 5 tickets to this game to take our Dad who was, at that point, not doing well with his cancer treatments. Really wanted that victory for him.

2). Cleveland Indians vs Florida Marlins, Game 7 World Series Oct 26, 1997. If the Indians had won this, my brother and I were going to get Chief Wahoo tattoos, which in hind sight, maybe a good thing the Marlins won.

3). Cleveland Indians vs Chicago Cubs, Game 7 World Series Oct Nov 2, 1997. That rain delay fucked the Indians over.

4). Cleveland Browns vs Denver Broncos, 1986 AFC Championship Game Jan 11, 1987. This one might be #1 for me.

5). Cleveland Browns vs Denver Broncos, 1987 AFC Championship Game Jan 17, 1988. Ugh....

    1. Dave Roberts is thrown out stealing second and the Yankees sweep the Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS in embarrassing fashion.
    2. Luis Gonzalez grounds out to 2B and the Yankees win the 2001 World Series, thus defeating terrorism.
    3. John Starks hits ANY of his 11 3-point attempts in Game 7 of the NBA finals and the New York Knicks win their first NBA championship since the 70s and cementing the 90s Knicks as the true #2 to the Chicago Bulls.
    4. Steven Gerrard doesn't slip on a routine back pass and Demba Ba doesn't score and Liverpool FC win their first Premier League title in 2013/14.
    5. I mean, can I just say Dale Earnhardt Sr. doesn't die in the last lap of the 2001 Daytona 500?

    3) panthers win super bowl 50
    4) kasey doesn't kick it out of bounds, panthers win super bowl 38

    1. Quinn Sharp's FG is called good and Oklahoma State defeats Iowa State in Ames, preserving an undefeated season where they defeat LSU for the 2011 BCS National Title.
    2. Will Bynum's layup in final seconds is no good, Oklahoma State uses OT to outlast Georgia Tech in the 2004 Final Four to meet UCONN in the championship game. Eddie Sutton gets his title.
    3. Alex Gordon runs home, ties up Game 7 of the 2014 WS. Royals win in extras.
    4. Bedlam 1988. Brent Parker makes the catch. OSU wins Bedlam and represents the Big 8 in the Orange Bowl.
    5. Dee Ford not being offsides in the 2018 AFC Championship game, preserving Sorensen's INT and sending the Chiefs to SBLVIII where they beat the Rams.

Texas makes the interception (hit the defender in the numbers) right before the Crabtree catch in 2008.
Colt McCoy doesn't get hurt in the 2009 MNC against Alabama. Maybe we lose anyway, but at least that "What if" feeling would be gone.
Texas wins game 3 against LSU in the 2009 College World Series championship.
Dez catch is, correctly, called a catch.
Romo doesn't bungle the FG hold in the 2006 playoff game against Seattle OR picks his lazy ass feet up and doesn't get shoestring tackled inches from the goal line after bungling the hold.

2009 Big 12 championship game. Texas doesn't get an extra :01. Nebraska makes a BCS bowl.
2009 ALDS. Game 2 top 11th. Joe Mauer's hit down the left field line is called fair (missed by ump Phil Cuzzi). Twins probably don't win the series but aren't 0 for forever in postseason baseball recently.
2009 NFC championship game. Favre doesn't throw across his body and throw an INT. Vikings go on and blitz Indy and win a god damn super bowl.
Gary Anderson hits the field goal in 1998 NFC championship game. Probably denies Elway of a repeat.

    I like Gordon Heyward too.

    2009 was a horrible year

this was kind of a joke post bc it's funny/sad that the Pack have lost so many NFC title games, in all seriousness I'd prob swap in 2018 Brewers NLCS and the recent Bucks ECF for the 16 and 19 NFCCG

    1. Michigan/PSU 2005. Michigan doesn't get the extra 0:01 put on the clock to win the game on a Manningham TD as time expired. PSU wouldn't have gone to the Natty (Still Texas/USC), but woulda finished undefeated. Favorite PSU team ever.

    2. Kris Jenkins misses GW 3 vs UNC in National Title game. I really liked that UNC team. Also to not see the replay every March for weeks straight would be great.

    3. Patrick Kane misses the net in Overtime, Game 6 Stanley Cup finals. Flyers win game 6 and 7.

    4. PSU beats Ohio St ONE OF THE YEARS, in 2017 or 2018. Goes on to represent B1G in the playoff, loses by 4 touchdowns to Alabama in the semi-final.

    5. Panthers win super bowl 50.

1 - Gordon Hayward half court heave - that would've been the greatest Cinderella story ever

2 - the phantom personal foul call on Da'Ron Payne in the 2017 Clemson/Alabama game - refs called a personal foul away from the play on a D- linemen going at it with a offensive lineman. Just the normal stuff in a game and they called it with about 5 mins to go and totally changed the game. Clemson likely runs out of time without that call. https://youtu.be/OuCBlaeJmJY?t=10361

3 - Yankeess play the infield back vs Arizona in the 9th inning 2001. - worst managing decision with a jam pitcher on the mount. Cost the Yanks a 2001 WS

4 - Jack Nichlaus final round at the 1998 Masters. people forget that the 58 year old Jack shot at 68 to finish tied for 6th that year, 4 shots off the lead. He just missed those 4 shots too. I always wonder what would've happened if he parred the 3rd, or made Eagle at 2. Might have made all the difference

5 - 2020 NCAA tourney - Was that the year a "small school" won it? I really thought that was the year of Dayton. We'll never know

2010 NLCS Game 6, Utley got pegged and then got in an argument with the pitcher which led to a bases clearing altercation (no one was tossed) pitcher got pulled and the relief came in and pitched solid enough for the Giants to win. I think if that original pitcher stayed in the Phillies would have won the game and Hameln would have won Game 7 for the Phillies who would go on to win the World Series giving Roy Halladah a championship he so deserved

I agree with most other Philly related posts here. If I can think of any more I’ll add them, but that one stuck out because of how much I wanted the Phillies to win with Halladay
