Not the hockey news I was expecting today. I was just coming to post it.

    That is some shocking news.

Get ready for more average veterans signed to the Leafs to compete for that 8th spot like the Devils have been doing the last few years.

I'm curious as to how this will work out. We know Shanny has final say, so how will that work with Lou? How will Lou and Babs work out? This is why you have a GM when you hire a coach so that that can be addressed during the interview process. If Babs says "no don't do this" or "yes do this" and Lou thinks the opposite, what happens? What does Shanny do?

I think they have brought him in because Babs and Shanny have nothing but respect for the guy and they also see him as a fantastic mentor to Hunter and Dubas. A lot of chiefs in the village now, but I think that's a part of the point. You want a lot of very strong voices to funnel up to Shannahan to hopefully make the right decisions moving forward.

I don't know how keen LouLam is on a rebuild, so that'll be interesting to see. All in all, it's a pretty strong management group now.

Yeah, with how deliberate Shanahan has been to this point at dismissing and bringing in guys and making some fairly bold moves, it feels like he has a plan and isn't going to just hand over the reins to Lou and let him do what he wants. I'm sure he's going to keep a close eye on things.

I don't know... I'm willing to withhold judgement on this one until I see some actually moves from Lou. His last few years in NJ weren't great, but he remains a shrewd hockey mind.

Yeah too many egos. I think in some sense it could work or it could implode. Lou has been the man for years, how will he do with a lot of guys in that room?

Yeah, what's with the 87, Kev? Username too...

Birth year? I simply refuse to believe it's for Flyers Public Enemy #1.

    Re: The NHL Thread

It's a valid question. Bottom line is I had #87 before Crosby was even like 10 years old.....

Story goes.... growing up a huge Flyers fan and thus NHL series video game fan, that once we were able to create ourselves in a game, (NHL 95 maybe?) I thought that was awesome. Well I'd always put myself on the LoD line with LeClair and Lindros. Lindros was obviously #88 and I was a huge fan. So I wanted to be a number close to his. Didn't pick #89 because of Mogilny (sp? - The Sabre) being so good at the time with that number. So I dropped it to 87. Always thought it looked like a cool number and stuck with me since. Always worn it on my roller and ice teams.

And thus the user name is my first name (nickname), my hockey number, and part of my last name....

Yep. For whatever reason, NBCSN games usually start at 7:30.

So Glendale and the Coyotes agreed on a new deal...for 2 years. Gives them time to work out a better deal....or move right around the time we could have two new teams.

I think it's closer to the "prime time" hours of 8-10. I'm assuming it looks better "number" wise
I like 7:30 starts, that way I can have dinner and relax for the game. Plus, it offsets from other games I may want to flip to during commercials

and what are the powerball numbers gonna be tomorrow?

So Holtby signs for 30.5 over 5 years. Not sure how I feel about that. He's a guy on the rise but...it's the Caps. They'll screw it up.

I think the Holtby deal was ok, it's at least reasonable, but I'm also still not 1 million percent sold on the guy. No doubt he just had an elite season. But it was just one.
