How're the boys sounding this year?

Maybe I'm missing it, or responses are buried in multiple threads, but just wanted to check in on how they're sounding this year. Cohesive? Messy? Just having fun and jamming?

Haven't made it to a show in a while, considering driving up to Blossom.

Y'all like what you're hearing?

Thanks! eace

They sound great. Download the DMB Hub and listen to some shows.
    Or listen tonight on Sirius.

Thanks, downloaded! I'm convinced. Just watching his CNN appearance made me want to go support these guys, forever and always.

Far and away best since 2015. They owned it tonight start to finish. Dave has his best vocals I can remember.

My thoughts from attending 1 show and keeping up with XM streams and couch tour: I thought they sounded great in Huntsville, but they still had some goofs to work out and unfortunately not much jamming. All of the XM streams have sounded much better sound wise than last year. You can tell the energy is high and the band is having a good time, I loved watching them interact in Huntsville. Not as much variety in setlist this year compared to this point in the tour last year, but this weekend is the first 2 night run they've done due to WBP being rescheduled, so it will be interesting to see if we get more debuts tonight. Shotgun and the Dreaming Tree have been played multiple times now but no signs of Bartender, The Stone, or Typical Situation. The light rig fucks.

Not very PC to call them boys without their permission. They are people. We don't know their pronouns.

Daves vocal performances aren’t the best which is to be expected with his age/wear and tear

dave is bastardizing Rapunzel again, and #41 lacks the overall energy in the jams, but those are my only big gripes...sounds pretty good to me overall

They sound great overall and I love their tone, a lot of the complaints about his voice seem to come from people listening to the live Sirius streams which haven't done him any favors of the years. He's raspy, good technique, transitions could be cleaner.

They sound amazing for this stage in their career.

Daves voice does sound "off" but I'll reserve full judgement until I see them liver and not just over a siriusxm stream.

As fas as the bastardization of songs, that's just changes that have occurred naturally with band members being added, etc. While I would agree that not all songs have progressed in a positive fashion, I still argue they sound amazing, whether it's an old arrangement or new.

Re: How're the boys sounding this year?

Band sounds as good as they ever have, especially post Roi. Dave's voice sounds fine in person, although you can see they seem to be avoiding the big yelling tunes like Bartender to save his voice. I do hope it's busted out soon though.

But overall, this year has a good mix of deep cuts and classics played with some new tunes and fan favorites. Yes, you might get a pretty cookie cutter show at a one stop show, but it's always a gamble. Two nighters I was worried about after Charleston, but Jax was maybe the best two night stand I've seen since I started going to shows in 2002.

I'm happy they are still around and touring. It really brightens up my summer.

Sirius broadcasts, especially what they do to Dave's voice are genuinely the most unfair reflection I've ever heard in my life. Whether it's compared to being there, a taper pull, a good phone video, a shitty phone video etc.

Just have no clue what they are doing, and it bothers me way too much.

planned to, got a ticket and then got extremely sick yesterday - high fever and intense fatigue - luckily woke up feeling WAY better, basically normal today. rapid test was neg. - got a PCR but waiting on results. hard to justify the 5 hours of travel and getting back home around 2am after feeling like that.

gonna be so bummed watching that live setlist populate the app tonight.... ugh hahah - hope its a memorable show for those who are there tho!!

Jacksonville N2 is the best sounding show of the tour for me so far. Not the best setlist, but some great highlights, they sound tight, and good guest spots. It wouldn't surprise me if it's released at some point all things considered.

what he does in rapunzel is borderline absurd haha...it isnt anything of a song progression or due to changes in band dynamics, he simply abandons the beautiful structure and dynamics of the song to lazily sing/force nonsensical vocal lines/"melodies"

i think your description more accurately gets to what they are doing on twostep, for instance...the song is just gonna change apparently because they cant pull off that jam? at least thats what i saw in passing around here
