And I think it helps going into it completely blind. I didn’t know the first act twist (that’s usually mentioned in a lot of synopses of the movie). And there’s more great twists throughout that I did not see coming.

I liked Drive My Car, but I didn't love it...and I think Matthew's take is a perfectly fine one to have. It's not a movie for everyone, and if you're not emotionally attached to the story, those twists with exception to the first one, probably don't stand a good chance of changing the viewer's tune on it.
It's not a thriller, so if you're not really vibing with a slow-paced character driven drama about a grief-stricken protagonist, I can't see how a few unexpected curveballs are really going to change anything.
Frankly, I think a lot of the play rehearsal stuff could have been cut out and the movie would have lost little for it, if anything at all.
