Ending the song with the main verse riff and some syncopated horn lines just doesn't do the rest of the song justice... plus that format has become super overused/stale with DMB 4.0.

This is why road-testing songs before recording in the studio is SO CRUCIAL! It allows the songs to grow and reach that next level.

I'm hoping the band realizes this and goes back into the studio to add new layers and let the songs breathe more on the studio recording. Shoot for a 2022 Release.

I agree. Even if they didn’t do a big ending, I wish they would drop those two horn hits at the very end.

When I saw it in Syracuse my seat mate and I thought it sounded an awful lot like "She" and everytime I've listened to it that's all I can think of.

The reason people (rightfully) hear the resemblance to She is because both songs have a verse that hovers around the note A (TOT more so than She), and then the next part that follows in both songs goes to F#.

I'm right in the middle with this song. It's the only one of the new tunes I've listened to many times because I love everything about the second bridge, and the chorus — I think it's very catchy/unique/unlazy(?). But I feel the exact opposite about the verses and they make me want to just throw this song on the same pile as every other new thing Dave has written.

Yeah, unless they are obnoxiously bad I don’t care about the lyrics. I didn’t get into this band because of the lyrics. The unique sound and amazing musicianship is what drew me in. Just give me good music.

To emphasize how little I give a shit about lyrics, and a little bit of how dumb I can be, I only learned the lyric "brother chaos will rule all about" at my last show in Chicago. I heard someone actually sing it in my left ear, and it clicked. I have sang that song 26 times at a DMB concert, and I couldn't tell you what the fuck I was saying whenever Dave sang that line. It was absolutely nonsense in my head.

I agree lyrics may not be what I listen for mainly, but there are enough provocative lyrics in this song for me to capture my attention. I don’t know what it is about the current state of lyrics with my fav band of all time, I just appreciated them much more w the earlier albums

Many of their songs don't warrant I'll Back You Up/Cry Freedom lyrics. Big rockers and funk songs are allowed to be silly and catchy, while some of the lovey ones are intended to be simple, earnest, cheesy pop songs. I've never understood how people get so up in arms about the lyrics on those types. For me if I dig the music and its catchy or fun to sing...I am not gonna hold those up to a microscope, study, analyze, compare and ponder the merits of their worthiness.

I mean, personally, I like my coffee with toast and jelly...but honestly, I'd rather be licking you from your back to your belly. But that's just me.
