Would be really cool if they aired the N1 set on Sirius like they did for the LT55 (09)

The only guitar I don't actually like throughout the years is the Chet, it's nostalgic and a big part of an era of DMB but I don't actually love the sound of it. I prefer a true acoustic sound and the Lakewood, Martin, Taylor, Rockbridge have all sounded good to me while different from each other. The format obviously has a lot to do with it, I mean Martin HD-28 is my favorite individually but works much better solo or D&T.

Hd28v is martins best dread and I’m more of a Mahogany fan. I prefer that dread to any other 18 style.

I thought management was getting more with the times by offering 24/92 FLAC downloads. Since LT46, nothing. What happened?

Must not have sold well enough to justify? I wouldn't think it would cost much more to master and host a copy in that format, but who knows.

Do you guys really believe there is an actual listening difference? I mean, we are talking about a 98 live record, not a studio recording.

Probably you’d need something like that to appreciate the difference between FLAC16 and 24.

It should cost much (if anything) more to get masters done of both 16 and 24 bit. It would involve the same mastering process and then bouncing down each song twice (once in 16 and once in 24).

I question wether I hear a difference between 44.1k vs 96k (or 48 or 88k), but 16bit vs 24bit I definitely hear a difference and think it is worth them making available.

I wonder if the older shows were only recorded in 16 bit? I haven’t been paying attention to which shows are available in 24bit quality - does anyone know if the ones that are are only more recent shows? Like maybe they only started recording the shows in 24 bit during a certain year?

Yes, I believe that's true, I forget when they started doing 24 bit, but the source for the 98 show is probably a 16 bit digital recording. There is a '95 (Live Trax 33) that is available in 24 bit because the source was analog.

LT33, a ‘95 show, and LT29 (but not LT45 which was played later in that tour), were released as 24/96 FLAC downloads.

You and 3 other people are the only ones that bought them.. I don't think that many DMB fans are buying audiophile level live shows..

I'm really excited for this release. I think they've done an excellent job this year and last with the shows they've decided to release.

I don't think it takes a technician in charge of downgrading a 24/96 file to 16/44.1 more than an hour. Unless dobyblue says otherwise, it's probably not labor intensive at all to make it cost inefficient.

You got me curious. How do your listen to your music? Can you be more specific about the difference?

Eh, you’d be surprised at how many people are savvy enough to recognize the difference. For people who are big enough fans of the band to be buying band released live recordings, they’re usually the type of fan that prefers CD/lossless quality downloads.

And I don’t say this specific to DMB.

I have a home recording set up, so I am able to listen to higher quality music through my interface (Slate VRS8) on my computer.

I honestly haven’t A/Bed 16bit vs 24bit of DMB albums, but definitely notice a difference in my own recordings that I make in 24 bit when I bounce them down to 16 bit. Thankfully that is no longer necessary with Apple Music supporting lossless. The differences are subtle but I would say 24bit sounds fuller and more open.

Well, we are talking about a 2000 $ sound interface that is most likely one of the best in the market:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_con...ature=emb_logo

I believe that you have high end speakers/headphones, so you belong to the 1% of the people having equipment sophisticated enough that you can really appreciate that difference.

I would like to try myself to listen to compare the two FLAC formats but with my setup I can hardly tell the difference between 320 kbps AAC/MP3 vs FLAC16, so …

I always used to wonder how they knew what time the commercials aired and it wasn't until years later that I was like oh that was just the regular price, they just made it seem like it was a deal so you bought their thing, very sneaky

The Stone from LT57 is up!!

(It sounds SOOOO good. If the rest of the songs were performed this well, we're definitely in for a treat.)

sounds great! ive always been disappointed by the mixes on the 98 releases (very tinny and hallow), but this one sounds much more balanced and full. looking forward to the release

edit: as others have said, wtf is up with having to wait over a month from announcement to release?? this isn't a major album where you're trying to build hype. this is a random show from 23 years ago that only hardcores like us are interested in. the announcement should be the release. /rant

I think they have to know how many to print. CDs are slowly dying, and they don't want boxes of them sitting in a warehouse next to Boyd's album.

edit: as others have said, wtf is up with having to wait over a month from announcement to release?? this isn't a major album where you're trying to build hype. this is a random show from 23 years ago that only hardcores like us are interested in. the announcement should be the release. /rant
I think it sounds very muddy and overly compressed.. cymbals are kind of jarring.. Dave’s guitar sounds good. But bass and drums sound boxy.. Boyd is too loud and tinny

I don’t think the we can really estimate the real audio quality of the release from a YouTube upload.
In fact audio on YouTube streams is usually compressed to 126 kbps AAC in an MP4 container or anywhere from 50-165 kbps Opus in a WebM container.

I don’t think I own anymore any MP3 having less than 256 kbps, and when I listened to my old 128 kbps they sounded so shitty.

    This.

I just wish they went the Phish route with these and allow you to buy and DL the digital album immediately and if you want them to make you a cd, then fine, order it and they’ll do that.
