Out of all the live releases, there is only a couple of shows that I really dont listen to (such as Gorge because of dave's voice, the lovely lady tracks on LS and Folsom), but there is one that I think sounds awful.

Live Trax 4. Is it just me or does it sound awful, like the mixing. I like the setlist, but the sound is awful. Maybe I just have a bad disc. If others could tell me whether their cd sounds awful or not. Its one thing for the bass to be too loud like on Boonaroo cd, but the whole thing sounds awful. It sounds worse than the lillywhite sessions and those werent even mastered, but they are the closest thing to what LT4 sounds like to me.

Please enlighten me on what the deal is with LT4.

I couldn't disagree with you more, but hey that's my opinion. I think it's one of the best if not the best live trax. to each their own I guess

I think it's a phenomenal release. A great view of the band at a very bright time in their history.

Could be better, but still pretty good I think. The sound quality/mix isn't NEARLY as good as LT8, but it's still okay.

It's clearly an issue of taste. It has a rougher mix, certainly, but I wouldn't ever say it's a bad mix. Not at all. Many fans, myself included, love that ultra-raw DMB sound. Things can be "too" polished, you know.

The show itself is fucking brilliant, even Dave's hoarse voice and Boyd's out of tune violin. I love every bit of it. Second best LT release, behind LT1.

As I've said before...I love Live Trax 4..probably my most listened to of all the trax. I love the raw Crash sounds....it was an interesting transition period for the band as there was still some of that old school sound, but you could tell they were in the process of maturing...I love it. And that Richmond Jam is amazing!

EDIT: Plus, there's some good Davespeak throughout the show, which is always a plus.

There's an energy the band had in those days that is actually replicated well on a tape.

And they will never, EVER get it back. Trax 4 is precious. Enjoy it.

This and LT7 are the shows that I listen to most from the LT series.

Jam (untitled) is the only song I listen to off of this recording. I was very disappointed in LT4 & LT5 -- especially since the first three were all so good.

i like this LT a lot. and you can really hear how well the chet cut through the bands sound back then.

and i know i'm in the severe minority, but i loved the fade-out ending to crash.

I Love Live Trax 4....the sound quality is not as bad as you play it out to be..
I hear it's the sound system that they got from the Dead and it's the first time playing with it...I like it a lot and that Jam (untitled) is the shit

Little Thing is the best track on the CD, but over all its not bad. Pretty middle of the road as far as LT releases go...

my favorite tracks from lt4 are easily the Two Step opener, i love the ending. Richmond Jam is good, Watchtower and Billies. This show has a great encore. Now that I look at the set I dont really see why im not listening to this show more often. Maybe because of the sound I guess.

Yes, love all the ham, and bitties with crabs. I think that this release has one of the best Jimi Things I've ever heard. I put it in for a listen yesterday after not giving it any love for maybe a year or so. Not the best release, but definitely underrated.

I hope we get another release of just the 5 of them playing.
