New version of "Come Tomorrow" (song) w/ Brandi Carlile

It's nicer sounding for sure. I find the song itself to be completely forgettable. My biggest beef with it is the album closer position (WIW doesn't count). I have very high expectations for album closers. Its placement on Come Tomorrow moves it from just forgettable to turd status for me.

I can't help but wonder about the familial status and/or political lean of those that don't like the lyrics. From the first time I heard it my mind attached it to Raven. Raven is Gen-Xer dealing with an old man that's like it's your problem now (albeit with some remorse). And CT is that same Gen-Xer seeing many of those same old men (or philosophically similar old men) floundering in their power positions and rarely doing anything for the greater good.

If you are a parent, I would hope that you'd look at your kids and see hope for the future, especially compared to the idiots currently shitting the bed.

Raven is a masterpiece, Come Tomorrow is just terribly written. They have a very similar message, but one is executed far better than the other. Raven is top 5 for me, CT is the worst song in the catalog.

Just listened to this song (album version) a few days ago- it's Gaucho-level cringe, lyrically. Had no idea Brandi was featured, look forward to listening to the new styling. Maybe "looking forward" is generous, I'm curious anyway.

So frustrating. I lived in Europe when I was 19 for a year, and there was nothing more annoying than being blocked from essentially all American content. YouTube was almost pointless to use.

Also, some games were region locked so I couldn't even play with friends back home.

So the tradeoff here was we lost some of the best parts of instrumentation in lieu of Brandi singing louder and being in the second verse.

Are you talking studio, live, or songs as a whole? TGIY is a bad studio track but it pretty awesome live. Stand Up is in the same boat as TGIY, while I dont want Stand Up at a show, it's at least well played nowadays and Buddy at the end is awesome. Come Tomorrow is trash studio, and the new one is worse. It's a bit better live without Brandi and Jeff has a nice solo, but it's never welcome at a show. Cant Stop is much improved on CT and isnt nearly as bad as CT(song).

Come Tomorrow has grown on me. It was my least favorite track on the new album. But it's pretty solid live and has given me a better appreciation for the song and it's message.

Still not a good song, but my god, how was this not the album cut? Cannot imagine how anyone would consciously pick the other version.

Then again, these are the same people that thought bringing Mark Batson back, releasing a bunch of songs from sessions Roi walked out on, cutting Bismarck, having Dave make a song in one take with him and Rob Evans, ripping a live intro straight from a YouTube video to lead into Idea of You, and bringing back clocks drumming on Idea of you were all good idea. So I'm not really surprised.

I liked her hushed tone enough on the album version and I always thought she was underused on this song. Her quiet vocals paired fairly well with Dave's on the original.

The idea of this new version is better, but I don't think the execution is that great. Instead of complementing Dave's vocals, she's contrasting them, with a more yelling/over-singing delivery. If I were to guess, I'd say that's why they chose not to use this version on the album. Now, if the arrangement was the same (Dave verse / Brandi verse, etc.) but she recorded a more toned down vocal, this one might be better.

Alas, both versions for me ... an equal amount of eh.
