Hello Gorge-ous people! Due to life stuff, my friend and I have to delay our inaugural Gorge trek. Sucks to be us.

This means we have a Wildhorse camping pass available, $219.00 USD (would have to be paid via PayPal, since I'm Canadian - sorry!). DM me if you're interested.

It has been 10+ years since we last made the trek from Mississippi to The Gorge. With that said, is there somewhere to buy hot meals during the day/evening in the camping areas?

    Hey Everyone,
My husband and I will be celebrating our first anniversary together, and I decided to get him tickets to the Gorge. It's been a dream of his forever, but I'm new to the DMB crowd. I took a look at the google doc (extra helpful, thank you!!), but am wondering what people actually think about camping? Is the general area totally fine for first timers, or should we splurge and look at the other camping options? I want to make sure he has the best experience since he's been waiting his whole life for this, so any tips would be very much appreciated!

It will also just be us two, so looking forward to making friends out on the lawn

Last year was my first time and per the recommendation of many on here, I went with premier camping over regular camping and I did not regret my decision at all. Premier gives you a bit extra space, is (I believe) a bit closer to the venue, showers are included for free, close enough to walk to the food trucks, and a crowd that likes to party but also doesn't keep you up until 5 am. The general section, when I walked through, seemed overcrowd. I felt the extra few bucks for premier was well worth it. There are other areas like terrace that will give you a better view of the gorge, and other areas that have tents pre-set up upon your arrival, but that is more of a decision you will have to make based on your interests, etc.

Premier all the way! Free showers (not in trailers), free shuttle to the venue, larger spots, still a TON of fun but less likely to have to camp in the middle of an all night binge fest like general might provide. However, some people always go general and swear by it. I just think you'll have a better chance at a GREAT experience in premier.

General camping can be summed up as
    - partying all day/night
    - camping very close to each other
    - theft isn't uncommon, but less so at DMB shows
    - a very noticeable deteriorating bathroom situation as the weekend progresses
    - loud

Premier or above is what I recommend. The only time I'd recommend general is if the couple/person is a big party type and plans to be on many different substances all day & night.

I don’t know if i agree with this, my first year we stayed in general and had a great time, they late night parties are highly exaggerated I find. That last few years we’ve stayed in premier with friends and prefer it because of the space, shuttle and showers that are free. Every year we usually go for a late night stroll into general to find shenanigans and are unsuccessful. The dmb crowd has aged I think and the parties have tamed.

It’s true. As the fans have aged, the parties have dwindled.

Have always done Premier or Wildhorse for DMB, but we ended up doing general for Dead and Co a few weeks ago. After reading all the horror stories I was curious to what we would encounter. I found it to be tamer than I anticipated, which was surprising since the Dead crowd is an entirely different animal. There were definitely wooks abound, nitrous tanks, and people raging until sunrise, but not as many as I was planning on. Honey Buckets stayed relatively clean. The biggest thing I noticed was the space you get and the quality of grass. Premier gets you plenty of space and nice landscape for the most part. General they pack you in like sardines and potentially have rocks, ditches, and long prairie hay to deal with. We were right next to a small irrigation runoff that was flowing freely into people's campsites. Glad I experienced D9, but Premier is the way to go.

So our first trip out we had a spot in Premier directly facing the River/Gorge which was awesome and our 2nd time out we were a bit further way and our campground did not face the Gorge, it faced more towards the Pivot area.

Is there any trick or method to the madness on where you end up in Premier? We arrived roughly at the same times and just wondering if those spots facing the Gorge are the first they fill in or what. Trying to get back in that section closest to the Gorge this year.

honestly you're kind of at the mercy of the parking lot attendants when it comes to if you go left or right once youre in premier...

Is there any trick or method to the madness on where you end up in Premier? We arrived roughly at the same times and just wondering if those spots facing the Gorge are the first they fill in or what. Trying to get back in that section closest to the Gorge this year.
Definitely at the mercy of the people parking you. I arrived on a Friday afternoon once and had an edge spot with a view of the gorge (without Terrace being in the way) and I arrived first thing on a Thursday for the exact same view. No rhyme or reason to that.

Can someone recommend an inexpensive hotel (in a safe area) near SEATAC...my flight lands late Wednesday night and I just need a place to sleep before trekking out to the Gorge Thursday morning. Thanks.

Is the area around SEATAC decent?
