Re: Star Wars: Episode IX Rise Of Skywalker (2019)

Exactly. It's a movie about space wizards, but let's get hung up on the fact that there is more than one mineral on a mineral planet. Seems reasonable.

Showtimes are up too. I'm going solo (no pun intended) Friday morning, then buying tickets to see it with the family on Saturday.

Annoyed that the first IMAX here is 3D.

I guess I will do Dolby Cinema instead and I get annoyed by the projector for that in my theater....will catch it later I guess in IMAX on a Tuesday cheap night.

Did you check all showtimes? All the IMAX screens near me typically do one 2D showing daily if they are otherwise showing the 3D version.

I'm torn, I saw VII in true 1.43:1 IMAX with Laser and happened to see the 3D screening (didn't know at the time there was an option) and I was absolutely blown away by 98% of the 3D, couldn't believe how crystal clear and super bright it was which typically hasn't been my experience with 3D. I've found outside of very minor instances of ghosting in peripheral action, the 3D post-conversion has come a looooooooooooooooooong way since the horrid Phantom Menace 3D conversion, so I'll probably choose whichever screening I can get the best seat in. for full AR IMAX I like 2nd or 3rd to back row and dead centre, but with only 11 rows altogether the back row is just fine too.

Wish I had a Dolby Cinema closer for all non-1.43:1 films, we don't have any in Canada. Outside of the IMAX with Laser in Toronto, every cinema that shows major motion pictures is 2K bulb projection, shitty black levels, no fine detail, no higher bit color, bah!

Closest US city is Buffalo and of course they don't have a Dolby Cinema yet, in spite of 127 locations in the US now.

Is this going to be a full 2 minute trailer shown during halftime, or just a 30 second commercial? Will have to check this out online after I get home from work.

9:45 for 2D IMAX....pretty sure I went that late for The Last Jedi and partially fell asleep. I prefer to stay away from the 3D stuff if it is post conversion even though it has come a long way.

I don't know what it is about my Dolby Cinema here....I feel when it is bright that I can see something that does not look right on the screen and it drives me nuts....I don't know if it would be considered banding but I always see it.

Apparently tickets went on sale before the trailer dropped. AMC has wait lines similar to Endgame and a lot of show times have sold out.

Tickets secured. IMAX 2D. None of that 3D shit. Reserved seating too. Don’t have to worry about getting there at an ungodly hour for a decent seat.

Booked the 6:30 Thursday showing. Wife wanted to wait until after New Years so the crowds wouldn’t be bad I’m not having the last episode in the saga spoilered before I see it.

I'm always down for a new star wars movie but this newer trilogy really has trouble pulling me in. I might have read this higher up or on another site but I just watched the trailer more than once and have trouble getting excited about it. I couldn't tell you half of the new characters names. I haven't seen any of them in the theatre since Disney bought them so this will likely be another home video night for me. Maybe it's just my place in life and having babies/young kids. Nothing seems to get me out of the house.

Though, I'm genuinely interested in what younger people think. For example, when my kids are older and can watch all 9 back to back, what will they think right away? They didn't have to wait 25 years for the entire series to evolve. Maybe that way they find it better to see it? No idea.

    Just a random thought.

Totally get that. When you have youngin's, your life is pretty much consumed by them for the first few years. I'm sure I only saw a handful of movies in the theater when my kids were toddlers or younger.

For me personally, the sequels came at the perfect time as my kids were just at the right age. TLJ is the only movie my daughter has seen twice in the theater (she has stellar taste in movies, obviously).
